False Expectations

I can say with 99% certainty I will only be eating store bought bagels for the rest of my life.  Making them from scratch was a nice bucket list item that I can now check off and turn my back on forever.    I was led to believe this process would be simple.  Ahem, I’m looking at you kid.   Sure, they may look half-way decent, but that’s because I’m showing you the good one.  The show pony.  The swan among the batch of ugly ducklings.   In total I wound up with two semi-decent… Read more >

Toasty grits

I’m not really a savory breakfast kind of girl, but every once in a while the mood strikes. Cheesy grits are pretty awesome, but unless you add a considerable amount of salt and fat, they can be a little bland. Super Sunday

You know it.   Family and friends (and regular readers) know I’m into football, so it’s no surprise I scheduled myself off for this entire weekend.  Priorities people! Sadly, neither the Pats nor the Giants really do it for me.  I think Tom Brady is too pretty and I think Eli just rides the coat tails of the older Mannings. I’ll still be watching the game though.  Obviously.  Who are you rooting for?  Or are you also apathetic about the match-up? I’m ready for next year’s season.  If only the Packers and Niners could play… Read more >

Kyle’s fancy feasts

The title sounds like cat food, but it’s not where I’m going with this post.    Kyle’s parents sent him home from the holidays with a bunch of gourmet cheeses.  We froze them (because that’s a crazy amount of cheese to have in your fridge) and have been pulling them one by one.  #1 Grilled mozzarella with marinara sauce. The key to getting that beautiful golden crispy crust is buttering the bread before it hits the pan.  The other trick to grilled cheese perfection is getting the ratio of cheese to bread just right –… Read more >
