Keeping cool

I guess summer is over.  But this past August and September have been abnormally hot (for the typically mild Santa Monica).  In the absence of the beach breeze, here are some of my favorite ways to chill out…   Putting my feet up in the coolest place in our apartment.  The guest bedroom future nursery upstairs gets a great breeze when the window is open.  I sit in the rocking chair with my face to the screen and think of how I’ll be in the same chair months from now with my baby.  It’s weird… Read more >

Pregnancy Q&A #1

Warning: female talk ahead, proceed at your own risk. How/when did we find out? Well, the how is easy.  I peed on a stick.  I had been suspecting I was pregnant because my boobs were basically humongous all of a sudden and super sensitive and sore.  I first thought something was up on my Sabra trip.  We had been “trying” for a couple of months at that point so I abstained from alcohol while being wined and dined in Richmond.  When I got back home, I knew I wanted to take a pregnancy test. Weeks 0-12

[written on 7/31/12, at the beginning of the 13th week] Honestly, the reason I didn’t blog about being pregnant for the first trimester is because I’m extremely paranoid.  You never know what can happen in those early weeks and being a nurse made me overly cautious (ignorance is bliss…I still had my maternity books…not good). It’s been two years since Kyle and I celebrated our love in front of our closest family and friends. And since then my love for him has only grown and grown.        I know I’m very blessed to have found my soul mate.  My life is so full.  I never thought it could get better. But it’s about to get so so much better.  🙂 Our family is growing.   **This ultrasound photo is a month old.  I’m 16+ weeks now (almost half way!).  I’ve been anxiously waiting to tell you all.  More to… Read more >

Vegetarian snack ideas

Now that Kyle’s bringing his lunch to work – and he’s vegetarian – I’ve been trying to get creative with snack ideas. While I’m content eating the same things day after day, he’s not. Guess what he’s finally sick of?  Clif bars.  I never ever thought the day would come (check out the photo below for a reminder of his love affair). That goes for all kinds of bars.  So I’ve been brainstorming things that are healthy, nutritious, tasty and interesting.  And I decided to start a master list.  I’m sure there are moms out… Read more >
