SB tid-bits

I didn’t take photos on our baby moon (it was K & E time). Also my phone was busted. It’s better(ish) now. Anyway, notes from Santa Barbara: The downtown farmer’s market is on Saturdays from 8:30 –1 pm. It’s on Santa Barbara Street & Cota (just off State Street). There were so many awesome nut butters and pies – plus a whole lotta yummy produce. Aldo’s Italian Restaurant on State Street has both a fabulous kale salad and a gluten free and vegan pasta dish. For the record, it isn’t a vegan restaurant at all,… Read more >

All kinds of random (again)

My last random post was so fun, here’s another one.   I’m officially a cliché.  I bought these and ate the entire jar (minus two spears) in one night.  In truth, I’ve always loved pickles, but since Kyle’s got mega issues with all things dill/cucumber/pickle/zucchini I haven’t had one in the 8 years I’ve known him.  Crazy!  Pregnancy is definitely a great excuse to get your way in things like this.  I was nice and hid them from his sight in the fridge and then ate them when he was in the other room on… Read more >

Pregnancy Q&A #2

Continuing where I left off in the previous Q&A post… The most popular question I’ve gotten is regarding nutrition during pregnancy and dealing with opinionated family members. Is your family questioning you about your pregnancy nutrition? I’m asking because my husband and I are going to starting trying soon, and my Dad is already telling me that I “really need” to eat meat while pregnant…not sure how to handle that one! and My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and I’m dealing with family/friends who think it’s okay to ask personal questions! I’ve… Read more >

Food & Kicking!

Recipes I owe you include the following:   Curried lentils and tofu.   Kale chips.   Vegetable pasta [with parmesan on Kyle’s portion].   Mexican nacho salad bowl.   Zucchini bread. And many more. I’ve gotta get my blogging butt into gear.  But I do have a few random things to share. First of all, the winner of the Sahale Crunchers is #34 Caralyn.  Congrats!  Email me with your mailing address asap.  My home-made soy-nut butter method was mentioned in this post, which is an awesome resource for anyone who packs their food for the… Read more >

Keeping cool

I guess summer is over.  But this past August and September have been abnormally hot (for the typically mild Santa Monica).  In the absence of the beach breeze, here are some of my favorite ways to chill out…   Putting my feet up in the coolest place in our apartment.  The guest bedroom future nursery upstairs gets a great breeze when the window is open.  I sit in the rocking chair with my face to the screen and think of how I’ll be in the same chair months from now with my baby.  It’s weird… Read more >
