I heart holiday food

This year, I’ll be going to: 3 Thanksgivings 2 Christmases 1 holiday party Which means my foodie brain has been in overdrive since October.  What to make, what to make, hmmm… Here’s what I look for in a recipe: Does it call for ingredients I have on hand/use often? (I don’t like buying a rare/expensive item for one recipe that I’ll never use again) Do I like all the ingredients in the recipe? Weeks 13-26

In all honesty, the majority of the second trimester was awesome.  My energy was much better, I had an appetite for quality food (like my old self!), and I got in a decent amount of regular exercise.  But it definitely had it’s annoying parts, too.  I almost feel like weeks 13 through 26 of pregnancy should be further divided into three parts – the beginning, the middle, and the end – because they were so different.  For me, at least. Halloween!

I’m 26 weeks pregnant – almost done with the second trimester.  Here’s the proof.   I’ve come to the conclusion that you really can’t tell how big I am from these photos.  My belly is so much larger in person.  I think this front view is a bit better.  Anyway, right after this photo sesh I headed off on a walk/jog.  I was so amused by all the spooky decorations in the neighborhood I decided to take some photos.  The people who live in the Palisades go all out!!  [Side note: I don’t live in… Read more >

Sugar frustrations

My second glucose test was this morning.  This time I had to drink 100 g of glucose.  After fasting for >8 hours.  So last night I got home from work, showered, ate a low carb dinner and tried not to think about how my body was about to enter starvation mode.  My seitan and daiya dinner would have made Mr. Atkins so proud.  My body really doesn’t like being without whole grains.  I was itching to throw my vegan “cheese-steak” on some whole wheat bread.  In the end I added a bit of quinoa to… Read more >
