Allergen friendly baby/toddler products

I make 99% of P’s food.  You could call it a labor of love, but I hardly consider it “labor” because I enjoy it immensely and nutrition is near and dear to my heart.  As for the 1%…it’s tricky with a child who has allergies.  Obviously in an ideal world we would have the time to make real food for our kids and we wouldn’t have to rely on pre-made items at all.  [Well, actually, in an ideal world there would be no food allergies, but we can overlook that small detail for the purposes of this post]… Read more >

Summah summah time

We have produce in abundance and I’m loving it.  Being surrounded by farms has major perks. I foraged these plums on my morning jog with P – he snacked on one en route home.  There’s a park with tons of fruit trees near us and last year I got a bunch too.  The birds try to dominate them but there are literally hundreds of plums so it’s not really a competition.  Yet.  The blackberries aren’t quite ready but I’m ready to pounce for those because it’s more of a struggle to beat the rest of the world to… Read more >

Weekend activities and my first recipe with bacon

This past weekend was all kinds of awesome.  We hung out with new friends who I’m certain will become old friends.  P got a taste of his first slip ‘n slide.  I ate a vegan ice cream sandwich that blew my mind.  And we got to enjoy some quality family time before Kyle went away for work.  Summer is his busy season so the sporadic posting often has to do with me being a solo parent while he’s off at random solar sites. That’s a separate mexican layered bean dip for the lactose free folks… Read more >

Birthday weekend for mom

I realize it’s pretty late to be recapping last weekend but I’m going to do it anyway because (a) these are my favorite posts to read and write and (b) my sister loves feeling in the loop with the family goings-on.  So.  This past weekend we went to visit my parents to celebrate my mom’s birthday.  I thought we were going to have to cancel because P got a GI bug last week that was annihilating him but he turned a corner on Saturday.  Thank goodness.  Poor baby was trying his best to be happy… Read more >

Single serving waffle

Remember how I turned into an egg once I got pregnant?  Since then it’s been savory breakfasts 99% of the time.  Fried eggs with a side of fried eggs please.  Until last week when my body randomly decided waffles and banana bread were the only way to start the day. Well okay then! At first, waffles may seem a labor intensive breakfast choice.  But actually, they’re not!  Way easier than pancakes!  You pour it in and go about your business in the kitchen and it tells you once it’s done…sooo…winning!  I also should share the… Read more >
