Fodmap friendly bar kickstarter

I don’t accept many samples.  I never did, but I do even fewer now that I blog so infrequently.  But FODMAPs research is near and dear to my heart, so I felt compelled to test out this bar by the lovely Jesse and Kate Watson. They contacted me a while ago – in the early-ish stages of their company and I was more than happy to help in any way I could, namely spreading the word about their growing business.  Having a husband who survived one start up (out of two), I have a soft spot for… Read more >

The weekly menu + my birthday weekend

I didn’t have many meals planned this past week because I went to my parents’ house on Thursday for the whole weekend. Kyle was busy with work on Tuesday and Thursday (which kept him out late at night) so we celebrated my birthday on Wednesday.  We had a simple thing at market, which was SO FUN.  The weather was good, the babies were all together, and Kyle got two dozen cupcakes (vegan and gluten free) from The Plum Bakery in Sac which were delicious. Look at the height of that frosting!  It was a really awesome… Read more >

Chocolate muffins that taste like cupcakes

A long time ago (not really but they have been long since eaten) I made these muffins using a Simple Mills mix. I’m obsessed with this company.  The ease of baking has never been so real.  And I don’t feel yucky about it at all because every ingredient is one I have in my pantry and would use on a from-scratch muffin too.  It’s like someone asked me if I wanted an instant option for something I already make and love and then made it just for me.  Ok, enough words…here are the pics. Whole real food… Read more >

Allergy friendly companies

I haven’t shared as much about my little guy’s allergies lately but that’s because (a) not much has changed and (b) I’m trying to stay semi-private while still offering any help I can to other moms in the same situation. I still email companies on a regular basis, though, inquiring about their products and the facilities where they are processed to try to increase my list of store bought items that are safe, so here’s the latest: Dear Elise: Thank you for taking the time to contact Annie’s Naturals. You asked in your email if the Ketchup is… Read more >

The weekly menu

There may be a lot of apple recipes in the future because we went picking at Apple Hill and came home with quite a bounty… The first place we went (Pine ‘O Mine) only had granny smiths left (not my fave) so after we got a few pounds of those we headed up the road to another spot (Boa Vista) where we got apple cider, apple pumpkin butter, apple donuts (SO MANY!) and apple BBQ sauces…oh, and more apples (pink ladies and yellow delicious). There was a huge crowd but our friends got there a little earlier… Read more >
