The weekly menu

I could whine about why I’m so behind but what’s the point.  Super sick children, mastitis, and an out of town husband – there – now you have the bullet points.  Moving on to the food portion from the last couple of weeks… Yup, made the curry chicken lettuce cups from Against All Grain again. This time we had no leftovers.  Sad face/happy face.  Sad because I like it and would want to hoard it for my lunch the next day, but happy because it means it was a recipe success for the whole family. Kyle got… Read more >

Jamba Juice is so allergy friendly

Ever since I discovered how awesome Jamba Juice is (in terms of taste and their allergen protocol in the store) I’ve been tempted to let P try it. I want him to learn how to speak up for himself – to self advocate about his allergies and his health needs – and maybe develop a bit of independence in the process.  Also, I want him to get the pleasure of ordering food (if we eat at restaurants with the kids I always bring food for him – I trust no kitchen other than my own). So last week, when… Read more >

Date night goals

Kyle and I went out for a date!! This was basically my (only) New Year’s Resolution.  Hopefully it will become a regular thing (making it a regular thing is my actual resolution).  I know it’s important, but it’s hard for a variety of reasons (some of which are valid and some of which are in my head). We still have never had a non-family member watch the kids, which may seem weird but…I don’t know…we just haven’t. And although I could say a lot right now – about my anxieties and personal road blocks as they relate to… Read more >

Danielle Walker’s Against All Grain

I’ve been following Danielle’s blog for a while and she frequently alludes to recipes in her various cookbooks that sound delicious.  Her blog is very allergy conscious, which is one of the many reasons I started following it (back when P was diagnosed with multiple allergies).  She also comes from an SCD background (similar to FODMAPs) and so that was another key thing that intrigued me (because so few people are knowledgeable in both cooking/recipe writing AND IBS dietary treatment protocol).  So I decided to check out her cookbook from the library to see if it might be worth the… Read more >

Making a three cake

I came up with this idea after I googled “Thomas cake” and pinterest lead me down a rabbit hole of creative crafty crap.  I’m not usually that mom, but I’ll be the first to admit, when there’s food involved, my ears perk up a bit. Here’s the play by play in photos with a few helpful notes and links for any other allergy peeps who want it. First up, the cake recipe.  Here’s my own.  It makes enough for two 9 inch cake pans or one 13 x 9 inch casserole pan.  I used the rounds, obviously.  You… Read more >
