We went out to dinner last week. It’s been cold and rainy in Santa Monica, which calls for real Fall clothes. Bump peek-a-boo. Now you see it, now you don’t. We went to True Food Kitchen, an easy choice as it’s within walking distance and the menu accommodates all dietary needs. We shared the kale salad to start (parm on the side). And I got “the natural” to drink (a sweet ginger fizzy drink). Not wanting to be predictably repetitive, I DIDN’T get the TLT sandwich or the tofu rice bowl, and instead went… Read more >

A reader recently discovered she wasn’t able to tolerate tofu…after ordering a case of Mori-Nu silken lite firm tofu. So she sent them to me!!! Thanks again Emily 🙂 They arrived slightly crushed, but I immediately got to work on cooking with them. I had already planned on making a lasagna that day, but I’d only ever made the tofu “ricotta” with extra firm (non-silken) tofu before. I figured I may as well give it a try with the silken kind. I used my same hummus/tofu recipe for the “ricotta”: 3 containers of… Read more >

My mom got into town late Wednesday night, so on Thursday we spent the day shopping, lunching, and shopping some more. We have both been to True Food Kitchen before. I started with The Natural which is one of the most insanely non-alcoholic delicious beverages. Ever. It’s ginger, agave, and soda. Mmmm… My mom got a lemonade. For our mains, we each got our own salad and then split the TLT. I’ve gotten the kale salad (with my same tweaks – no parmesan, add baked tofu) every time I’ve gone to True… Read more >

Soooo, I racked up 🙂 Poor Kyle could hardly eat breakfast as I sorted through my loot from Expo. He said I was like a pirate laying out my prized possessions captured goods. I think it’s safe to say, I have a lot of lunches ready made. I couldn’t even fit all of it on our dining table. I have more than piles of “health” food to show you though. I actually did go to the Natural Products Show with a purpose (beyond hoarding). [Browsing the booths before the show opened to the public] Since… Read more >

Kyle’s cousin from Norway is visiting, so even though I’ve been working for most of her time in LA, I managed to join up for dinner and drinks the other night. We got drinks at The Misfit (rapidly climbing the charts in favorite Santa Monica bar/restaurants). The above is a Gin Fizz – minus egg whites which are apparently a normal component of the drink? Weird. The drink was delightful, but got me kinda wasted. I’m so pathetic. It takes nothing to get me drunk nowadays. Fortunately we were off to dinner after that. Stopped… Read more >
