Before 2014 started

I did a pretty good job of meal planning that last week of the year. First we finished off all the holiday leftovers we brought back from my parents’ house, including stuffing, roasted veggies, mashed potatoes, and lima bean casserole.   One day, I jazzed it up and made a cheesy “gravy” sauce with nooch and water.    And another day, I paired it with a salmon burger for some protein.  Kyle took care of the rest of it.   There was also extra shrimp and veggies from my parents’ holiday party so I pulled… Read more >

Weekend in Chico (woo!)

Kyle and his friends (who all grew up together in Chico) always say “woooo!” after anyone mentions Chico, so it’s become a habit for me too.  So that’s what the post title is about. I’ve written about Chico visits before, and we usually got to the same spots, so I won’t elaborate too much on the food. Friday night I had my fantasy draft and Kyle went to poker night. In spite of my half assed research, I came out with a decent team (I hope?) but it was very stressful…hence the chocolate wrappers.  … Read more >

Trying Thai cooking

I made this on our last night in Nor Cal and just wanted to quickly share the recipe I used. I found a few different recipes and combined them to make my own.  Can you believe I’ve never cooked with coconut milk before?  I love Thai food, especially the really amazing curry coconut milk broth dishes.  I guess that’s probably why I’ve never taken a stab at creating something similar at home.  It seems like mission impossible to get the perfect balance of Thai flavors and spices (especially when it comes to international spice… Read more >

Touring Davis

As I alluded in the last post, we had a road trip planned for the next day in Nor Cal.  Boy oh boy are we pushing our luck with all these long car rides with an infant! But this is what he does most of the time so we are really lucky (so far).  Fingers crossed. I packed lots of food for us so we could hit the road early (basically right after we had both showered and I’d breastfed P).   Kyle and I both had similar breakfasts, but his was sandwiched between some… Read more >

It’s not delivery…

It’s pick-up. Since publishing my book, I’ve been rather lazy in the cooking department.  Home-made eats have been at an all time low.  Our kitchen is sad, I’m sure, but I’m enjoying the time off. Anyway, when delivery.com asked me if I’d like to try out their service (with a $10 off voucher) I said sure!  It was the perfect excuse (not that I need justification for getting take-out). I’d been craving Thai food for a while, so I entered our address and “thai” and immediately Thai Dishes popped up.  Perfect!  It was on my… Read more >
