Hollywood, Glendale, and Larchmont [oh my]

We covered some serious ground on Laura’s last day in LA! I’m a horrible sister considering I’ve lived in LA for over 6 years (four in college and two currently) and never taken her to see the touristy sights. We started at the Chinese Theatre.  She saw the stars…and some other characters…and quickly realized why I avoided that part of the city.   For lunch we headed over to Mendocino Farms, a place I’ve been meaning to try for a while.    I’m so lame when it comes to leaving the Westside.  I fully admit… Read more >

Reader’s request: For simplicity’s sake

Nowadays I tend to post my more creative recipes as opposed to my thrown together quick plates.  But every time I show a random meal that I have mindlessly made up I get requests for them to continue.  I guess people just want simple.  Here is simple: quinoa, carrots, peas, and seitan.  Prep: Bulk quinoa from the rice cooker.  Frozen peas.  Log seitan made before the work week starts.  So the only thing I had to do when I got home was chop (horse carrots and seitan) and scoop things onto my plate.  It… Read more >

Wednesday Timeline

By the time I got home the other day I was about to fall over with exhaustion.  It was one of the busiest days I’ve ever worked. To give you a point of reference, I never finished my morning coffee. Anyway.  If you’re looking for someone to blame for my really delayed Wednesday post, I’m removing myself… Read more >

Mid-week vacation

Well hello! I keep thinking it’s Sunday night because Kyle and I just got back from an overnight stay in San Juan Capistrano.  We randomly decided to skip town after Kyle’s classes on Wednesday…he only has class one day a week and I didn’t have to be back at the hospital ‘til Friday, so why not? Kyle’s parents were happy to see us and took us to dinner at a new Thai place that just opened near their house. If you think the name is cheesy, you should see the menu!  Thai Juan On is… Read more >

Real men eat plants

You know that phrase “real men eat meat”?   Well, real men eat plants, too.  Satiating meals with adequate micro and macronutrients can be made without animals.  And Kyle can attest to that. Lentil & barley stew.   Not only do real men eat plants, but they follow directions too! Black eyed pea succotash and white rice.   As you can see, I only have a leftover portion photographed.  You see, this dish was thrown together last week, but didn’t make it on the blog because Kyle ate most of it.  I never felt compelled… Read more >
