Mother’s Day weekend

What an amazing weekend.  Not just because I got showered with love.  With or without Mother’s Day, this past Saturday and Sunday were just plain awesome. Kyle was down in LA on Friday for a conference, so I was solo parenting again. I broke the fast with a bowl of overnight oats.  Man, it’s been a while since I made these!  I basically just added boiling water to some oats the night before, along with a few big spoons of peanut butter.  Then I stirred it all up and left it in the fridge so… Read more >

Los Angeles Bucket List

Now that I’ve shared the big news, I can start talking about all the last minute things we’ve been up to as our LA residency comes to a close.   On our drive back down to So Cal, Kyle and I created an LA bucket list.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to hit up all the restaurants we wanted to.  There’s too much food in our fridge/freezer (slash we need to save $$$) to justify going out to eat the way that we both want to.  Which would have to be every night for… Read more >

I’m giving away the BEST supplements

Recipe first, giveaway second.  Cool? Or you can skip ahead to the end if you want.  I won’t be offended. I was trying to make meatless meatballs, but they weren’t really cooperating, so instead we got sliders.  The recipe still needs some work though (in my opinion).  They taste good, so that’s not the issue.  And for anyone wanting to make sliders (or bigger veggie burgers?), these would probably be good enough. I’m sure everyone is thoroughly sick of Super Bowl recipe ideas at this point (I know I am).  So make these whenever.  Or… Read more >

By the books

My mom’s cousin (my second cousin? first cousin once removed?) very generously gifted me a lot of (used) cookbooks recently.  And although I haven’t looked through all of them yet, the few I have browsed through look awesome. In fact, last night’s dinner came from this one. I modified it some, and it was definitely a winner.  Of all the cookbooks I got, I’ve bookmarked the most to try in 500 Best Quinoa Recipes.  They’re all gluten free and creative, but still simple and whole foods based.  And even though they aren’t all vegetarian or… Read more >

Sasa in Walnut Creek

I mentioned in this post that I went to Sasa for dinner with my family while home for the holidays.  As you can see from the menu above (or clicking on the restaurant the link), their food concept is Asian Fusion with small plates to share.  I love small plate menus because then you get to order a ton of things so you wind up sampling a lot.  And trust me, this menu had plenty I was eyeing. In fact, the food was so freakin’ good, as a food blogger, I felt it wasn’t cool… Read more >
