If Pigpen and Courtney Love shared a teeny tiny living space, I’d imagine it would still look more organized than our apartment. Moving isn’t fun. There’s chaos everywhere. Given that, I believe I deserve mayj props for busting out a semi respectable breakfast. Berry carob pancakes 1 1/2 cup brown rice flour 2 tsp NuNaturals stevia 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup frozen (and then thawed) berries 1/4 cup carob chips 1 shake Marx Foods salt 1 cup Silk vanilla soymilk I gobbled them up hot off the press…much like the Cosmo, Bride, and InStyle… Read more >

It’s no secret, I love trips home. West Coast sunshine, family and friends…can’t get enough! This trip was jam packed, due to Kyle’s birthday celebration and an insane amount of wedding planning. Since I have photos up the hoo-ha, I’ll try to avoid the mundane (read: heaps of Stacy’s pita chips and hummus), such as this: And show you only the highlights, like this: Brewskies and cake. Now that’s a trip home! As I mentioned before, Friday was Kyle’s birthday, so we celebrated all day long. The key to having a fabulous birthday is having… Read more >

I didn’t intend for this to be a stew, but the extra juice was too good to waste. This dish was born from my desire to try new things…and a while back I mentioned that I wanted to experiment with new types of ‘shrooms (in a legal way)…so I bought some Shiitake mushrooms from Whole Foods and started brainstorming what to do with them. It took me a while to decide how to incorporate them into a recipe, but then a light bulb went off (does anyone else experience cooking related “AHA moments” while… Read more >

After a fairly miserable red-eye flight, Kyle and I returned to our 10 degree apartment Monday morning. 🙁 With a list of errands longer than the Gettysburg address and a brain still on a mental vacay, it goes without saying…I felt a bit overwhelmed. It didn’t help that I couldn’t stop shivering for the first 2 hours. I finally had to take a shower to get my body temp back to a normal range. After a piping hot cup of cocoa (the apartment is coffee-less!!) I unpacked, laundered, made a grocery list…and STILL felt like… Read more >

This morning there was not enough coffee in the world. Sometimes late nights do that… Imagine this mug times 100. Ok, 3. For breakfast, I practiced my vampire bite with various pieces of fruit. Clearly I’m going through True Blood withdrawal… I also had some Smart Balance-i-fied toast. Had to finish up the Alvarado Street loaf to make way for my new Nature’s Pride loaves. (Fangs marks not included) As usual, on my day off I worked on re-stocking the kitchen/fridge for my work days. This included making: quinoa, chickpeas, black beans, steamed veggies in… Read more >
