Peas and Andrea

Reasons I love Portland: 1. Starbucks 2. Gardens and greenery galore 3.  Peas and Andrea! Obviously this was the highlight of my visit to Portland (aka the only reason we stopped on our drive up to Kyle’s parents’ house in WA). You see, these ladies hold a very special place in my heart.  Care to Eat was actually the VERY FIRST food blog I read.  I fell in love with Erin and Andrea after just one post.  And then once I discovered the (since dissolved) blog of the sarcastic and witty Mama Pea, I knew… Read more >

A ‘sNice Goodbye to Gotham

Our last day in New York!  Monday was bittersweet, I suppose.  Although, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more eager to get back to CA.  Still, it was weird knowing that this would be our last time in New York for a very very long time.  Like every other morning, we made Starbucks coffee in our hotel room before heading out.  For some reason I have never seen this African Kitamu blend anywhere else, but I was in love at first sip, and am now determined to get my hands on it.  Has… Read more >

An Ode to Whole Foods

How I love thee, let me count the ways… 1. Prepared foods bar As you are about to see, I’ve been going through a few obsessions.  Whole Foods makes it dangerously easy to slip into food ruts because each dish is better than the last and meals require no effort whatsoever (aside from determining if you want the Kirstie Alley size or the more moderate portion) because they are already prepared. Fumi Tofu Salad I was first introduced to this glorious dish back in my college days, when the Whole Foods opened in Westwood and… Read more >

The beginning of the end

Where did we last leave off?  Ah yes, strolling the High Line.  I had two raw blondie macaroons from O.L.D. while we wandered over the city, and then we decided the time had come to brave the masses.  Times Square or bust?  (Personally I’d rather bust, but that feels awful to say after the Saturday night incident). I really avoid midtown, especially on the weekends, but when friends are visiting from out of town, ya gotta embrace your inner tourist…and that includes the hideously crowded 42nd street area.  I swear, all the lights and crowds… Read more >

Fair weather fan

Saturday started with the ordinary: coffee, blog, tv, yadda yadda. Eventually I made a brunch platter (of the not so ordinary nature). Maybe carrots and apples seem weird for breakfast the first meal of the day, but it’s what I was craving.  And if you think I had these without hummus, then you clearly don’t know me at all. I finished off the rest of the (just opened) tub with a 7 grain roll, followed by grapes.  Nothing like 8 servings of chickpea heaven to get the day started right. After a hearty mug of… Read more >
