The Average Woman

Quoting Kathie Lee and Hoda isn’t usually my thing, but I was enjoying my coffee in front of the tv this morning and here’s what I heard. The average woman gains 8 pounds between Thanksgiving and mid-January. The average woman is 5’4” and weighs 164.  The average woman of that height should weigh 145.  [according to what source, I don’t know] I find these stats to be irrelevant.  I don’t care about being compared to every other woman.  It doesn’t motivate me and it certainly doesn’t inspire me.  If I were a person who thrived… Read more >

Self fulfilling prophecy

I got 5 pounds of oats from Tropical Traditions and I’m working my way through it pretty damn quickly.  Aside from my daily – sometimes double – dose of oatmeal, I have been baking quite a bit too.  Since I had bananas with more brown than yellow sitting on the counter, I knew time was ticking until they would be freezer bound.  But I already have plenty of frozen nanners!  Must. Use. ASAP.   I was winging it as I went with this recipe, but it came out great, so I will share. Peanut Banana… Read more >

Oh so savory

My meals have been pretty bizarre lately so don’t say I didn’t warn you.   I have no clue how this meal was born.  It came out of nowhere and makes no sense.  At first I thought I wanted sweet oats (my normal breakfast thang).  But then I saw some leftover tofu and said to myself “why not!” I added chai tea to my oats along with half the block of tofu and mashed them all up together. Then I figured to go full on savory and add in some veggies, nutritional yeast, and Bragg’s… Read more >

Carmageddon

First things first, I made coconut blueberry scones yesterday, and I am really pleased with the outcome.  The recipe will be up soon.  Here’s a teaser…   I had three over the course of the afternoon, very much spoiling my appetite for dinner.  They are friggin’ delicious.  Anyway.  I had one before work (breakfast #1).  And then I brought these goods for the rest of the day. Breakfast #2 – oats with silken tofu, raisins, and NuNaturals’  vanilla stevia. Lunch – salad with mixed greens, shredded zucchini, carrots, red quinoa, kelp noodles, and seitan. Snacks… Read more >

Can’taloupe

A few fruits, like grapes and melon, give me reflux trouble.  It’s not that I can’t eat them, it’s just that I have to eat them alone, stay upright afterwards, and not exercise.  Cantaloupe is one of the main culprits, but I think I found a way to work around it.  Blender! Ignore the color, this was awesome.    It was also crazy healthy – packed with vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats! See that green powder?  That’s the latest item to join the hippie kitchen.    Um.  Whoa.  What I like about this Antioxidant Omega-3… Read more >
