Where did I leave off…oh right, lunch at Caravan of Dreams. We took our time strolling around the East Village before we found our way back uptown. We took Rusty for one last walk before leaving to check into our hotel. Jess arrived home right as we got back, so we got to hang out a bit while we packed up. Schlepping our bags on the subway was as fun as you’d expect. And since it was 9/11 we were being watched hard core. But eventually we got to The Roosevelt. We were originally… Read more >

As Kyle and I headed to dinner on the eve of September 11th, the sky was illuminated with a beam of light where the twin towers once stood. It was both eerie and inspiring and when I saw it I thought of each person who’s life changed that day. I know that this post is from last week (and therefore old news), so I won’t share my reflections on 9/11, but it was a very patriotic weekend to be in NYC. If there were a way to feel proud and somber at the same time,… Read more >

On Friday night, Kyle and I met up with Marisa for dinner in SOHO. I have a long list of to-try restaurants in NYC, so being back for the weekend is a nice chance to cross some more off. Spring Street Natural has been around for over four decades, serving natural cuisine with an emphasis on fresh and healthy fare. The menu is really diverse, with choices in each course ranging from completely vegan and macrobiotic plates to innovative to seafood and poultry entrees. This makes it a perfect place to take your non-vegan… Read more >

On Sunday I broke my coffee-free streak. USVAB almond milk, Wholesome Sweetener organic vanilla agave, cinnamon. Artisana makes the best nutbutter, but it also happens to be the most $$$. Once this coconut butter is gone (which will be very soon), I will be making my own only. No room in this hippie’s budget for jars of something I can make on my own for a fraction of the price. No matter how delicious and convenient it is to purchase. After digesting, I went for a short run, made shorter due to the weather. It… Read more >

I worked on Saturday, so my Friday wasn’t really a TGIF kind of day. To summarize the AM: cereal, bike ride, window shopping. I had two Turlock multi-grain pitas with hummus for lunch and a veggie burger a la mode. Hummus gone. 🙁 In terms of fizz KeVita < Synergy, in terms of calories it’s the reverse. Flavor-wise I go back and forth. Depends on what I’m in the mood for. Truthfully, all I wanted for dinner was quinoa drenched in Bragg’s liquid aminos, but I decided to up the nutritional profile of… Read more >
