That’s the name of the meal I ordered at brunch on Saturday. Kyle’s parents took us to Real Food Daily, my favorite breakfast spot in Santa Monica. I love this place so much I’ve stopped linking to it on my restaurants tab because I’ve been at least a dozen times. My plate’s the one on the upper left. It has two (gluten free) pancakes, scrambled tofu (with onions, tomatoes, & cashew cheese), tempeh bacon, and hash browns. Holy breakfast right? You can choose between fruit or hash browns (can’t say no to fried taters!)… Read more >

I want to love Real Food Daily. I really do. But there’s something about it that annoys me (and perpetually disappoints me). Maybe it’s how overpriced it is. Or how every meal needs something extra added to it (for an additional $3 fee). Or how the ambiance is often holier-than-thou. Grrr. But it’s like Vegas. I have amnesia and after a few months hiatus I go crawling back…only to remember why I vowed I’d never return. Well. I’m happy to say, RFD finally got it right. With Mexi-fare. I’ve made pancakes more than oats this week. And if you don’t understand how huge that is, you don’t know me very well. Pancakes are just awesome. On the left: almond butter and bananas On the right: peanut butter/maple syrup and bananas Kyle’s been out of town, so I have been sleeping in, making big batches of pancakes and eating them while watching TV on my computer. So lazy. Aforementioned “big batches” last me until well after noon. So I figure if I’ve had a few courses of pancakes, it counts as breakfast AND lunch,… Read more >

Even though we live blocks away from some of the finest veg-friendly establishments in LA, who can deny the fun in being 100% lazy. Vegging on the couch in PJs with dinner from Real Food Daily. Yes please. On the left: Kyle’s RFD burger with the works. On the right: my Salisbury seitan with mashed potatoes and gravy. Since it’s hard to tell what the burger looks like in the container, here’s a zoom of it (mid-grub). Or you could see his order in this post. He sure loves that burger. We each… Read more >

This past week has been work heavy, which is why I’ve been doing more recipe posts. But my sister hates recipe posts prefers other material (and isn’t afraid to let me know it), so here’s a recap of my weekend. Starting with Friday… I made peanut butter. I made a spinach and pumpkin seed pate. I made bread. I made pancakes. I ate pancakes. I made seitan. I made tofu. And after spending most of the day in the kitchen, Kyle and I opted for a dinner out. We walked to… Read more >
