Days that start with the letter “s”

Saturday was a work day.  F to the U.N.  Packed nom-noms are some of the usual suspects, as well as some new members.  Carrots, salad, apples, bars, and a baggie of goodies.  Tummy-wise, I felt a little bit better, but certainly not great.  In the non-transparent bag: almonds, carob chips, raisins, pistachios, cashews, and pretzels. This Belle Bananas Foster flavored 18 Rabbits bar was another winner.  I’m not usually a banana nut fan, but this may be the bar that changes that.  It’s oaty, with good breakability, perfect level of sweetness, and reminds me of… Read more >

Gorilla Food in Vancouver

As I have mentioned before, my (future) in-laws are completely supportive and respectful of my vegan lifestyle.  So much so, that they did research before we headed to Vancouver and had a perfect lunch spot all picked out. Gorilla Food is right near Waterfront (where the Olympic rings and torch is), so we took the Skytrain there and then walked the few blocks to the restaurant.  Cute no?  Despite the tree going through the ceiling, the atmosphere was cozy and the staff was really friendly (like the rest of the Canadians we encountered).  The lady… Read more >

Zucchini pasta weekend

If I had to design a perfect birthday weekend, I definitely wouldn’t include two days of work.  Unfortunately, my boss didn’t agree.  I guess I can’t really complain about it though, since I just got back from a week vacay in CA.  I was totally prepared with a buncha pre-packed food. Fruit, of the dried persuasion, included mango and pear slices, as well as a strawberry chewy-thingy (Nike race freebie), while fresh fruit was limited to a smallish apple.  I also bar-ed it up with the Blueberry Crisp flavored Clif, and a Cashew Cookie Larabar. … Read more >

The massive recap that never ends

Seriously, I hope I’m not boring you all, but this trip home was so epic, that even the Cliff’s notes version is miles long… I guess I will continue from where I left off (Saturday PM). Since the Nike half marathon started at 7 am (and I had no desire to commute into the city before that ungodly hour) I stayed at my sister’s apartment the night before.  At least something positive came out of last month’s half marathon pre-race disaster (i.e. 4 am wake up calls are NOT conducive to a happy hippie).  Spooning… Read more >

Solo Saturday

Initially, I thought this weekend wouldn’t be too bad since my weekend at the hospital overlapped with Kyle’s trip to the west coast (I mean, we might as well both be occupied if we aren’t together, right?)…but then I found out some of my fave peeps were going to be in town.  [Insert HUGE sigh]  Next time… Work grub.  Let’s get to it. Now what do we have here:  PB&J Larabar (it had been too long – I don’t recommend waiting over a month week between consuming this flavor), Chocolate Brownie Clif bar (ummm, chocolate… Read more >
