Like I mentioned forever ago, I made this for dinner, lunch, and then dinner again because it was so good. It’s inspired by Native Foods’ sesame kale macro bowl, which I’ve gotten countless times before. Chef Tanya’s version has steamed kale, brown rice, creamy ginger sesame sauce, tangy sauerkraut, gomasio and toasted sesame seeds. Mine had steamed kale, quinoa, sauerkraut, and a creamy sunflower seed dressing. The only thing you really need a “recipe” for is the dressing I made (because otherwise, you just add quinoa and kale and sauerkraut to a… Read more >

I’ve sat down to write this post a few different times now. Each time I stop because I don’t know where to begin and how much to share. Here’s as much as I can get out for now. I’ve been withholding news. It’s really really exciting news. But it’s also bittersweet. Remember that trip up to Nor Cal? Where we visited my family and Kyle’s business in Davis? Yeah, we were actually doing some house hunting too. And guess what! We found a [perfect!!!!] place so easily, it’s like it was meant to be. I’m… Read more >

Just a [link filled] reminder… Certain recipes are so good they are worth repeating. Often. Like quinoa granola. And egg & kale breakfast strata (in muffin form). And mushroom miso & squash stew. And daiya pizza. And vegetarian chorizo & kale rice casserole. By the way, I totally figured out what this meal reminds me of. I am reluctant to share though, since it’s (cringe) Hamburger Helper. Don’t judge, just make it. And baked potatoes with the works. [There’s more of that vegan chorizo] And mushroom stroganoff. [I added TVP this time to increase the… Read more >

Kyle’s been taking day trips away for business, which leaves me and P home alone together. I realize this is how most new moms function after their spouse’s paternity leave ends (if they even get any!), but for me it’s a whole new learning curve. Fortunately, my little guy is making leaps and bounds each and every day, so I can utilize the crib in the nursery (and video monitor) and boppy pillow (which neither of us were ready for during his first month of life). His neck is getting really strong and he’s… Read more >

Most of the time I make veggie burgers I don’t measure the ingredients (because I’m often in fridge scraping mode, trying to use up whatever odds and ends are on their last legs). Throwing things in a bowl, mashing them up, and hoping they hold together and taste good doesn’t always turn out. For better odds, I should probably follow a real recipe. One of these days I’ll plan ahead like that…but for this recipe, I was in kitchen clean out mode. At least I wrote down the recipe this time! Progress… Quinoa, Bean… Read more >
