I worked on Saturday, so my Friday wasn’t really a TGIF kind of day.  To summarize the AM: cereal, bike ride, window shopping.  I had two Turlock multi-grain pitas with hummus for lunch and a veggie burger a la mode.   Hummus gone.  🙁   In terms of fizz KeVita < Synergy, in terms of calories it’s the reverse.  Flavor-wise I go back and forth.  Depends on what I’m in the mood for. Making a salad a meal

Hi, I’m in a salad rut.  [never a bad thing]   As I’ve repeatedly blogged about, I’m a bit of a prep queen.  Whenever I know I have several shifts in a row, I make sure to prepare healthy and flexible food options ahead of time.  I hate coming home to an empty fridge (and after 12+ hours on my feet, I definitely don’t have the energy to start cooking a meal from scratch).  This week’s examples: Lentils & wheat berries.  [Soaking on stand-by] Veggies. The aroma of coconut

You know what this means, right? It means the baking bug hit. It means the kitchen smelled fan-f$%#ing-tastic today. It means I finally sent off the great fundraising act quinoa granola winner’s package.  [about effing time Elise] It means the apartment will have lingering coconut scents for the next few days…or until I next steam broccoli.  😉   Oops! Market meals

Last weekend I promised to share our vegan BBQ menu and then I got so busy with Disneyland, work, and my trip home I completely forgot about it.  We didn’t actually determine what we were having for dinner until we got to the Farmer’s Market.  So the menu was based entirely on what was fresh that day.  Let’s start with the green beans.    After washing them and cutting off the ends, I steamed them until they were nice and soft. How did I not know until just now that my idol, Jillian Michaels, has a free podcast on iTunes!?!  I’m 24 episodes behind, which means I have enough listening material for the drive to Nor Cal tomorrow (and back on Monday).  Score!  I was heartbroken (no, seriously, I was) when XM radio discontinued Jillian’s last radio show, so imagine my excitement when I discovered she’s back!  And this time on iTunes!  There’s nothing more motivating than listening to Jillian speak about fitness and nutrition.  Weee!  I’ve never looked forward to the I-5 like this.  Ever. … Read more >
