pumpkin

Hello appetite

Day shift food, including oatmeal, lasagna (two servings), apple, carrots & hummus, and a cinnamon roll.  Details below. Pumpkin and raisin oats made with vanilla almond milk.  I’m officially good and ready for fall. Lasagna that’s bigger than my head.  I had half at lunch time and half an hour later. Snack options. I got home around the same time as Kyle and we each dug into the quinoa quiche I made earlier in the week (meal planning still going strong). I cut it into quarters because I figured it was pretty likely we would… Read more >

All kinds of random

Caramel and chocolate.  Almost better than nut butter and chocolate.  Almost. What could this be?  I love surprise packages.  Kyle’s a keeper.   I don’t want you to think Kyle and I are crazy stalkers, but we are both very much in love with Katie’s cute little family.  And texts like the above are not uncommon.  I mean seriously, how can you not melt??  Vegetable juice and french fries cancel each other out right?  I mean the fries were from Whole Foods…that’s gotta count for something.  Kyle wanted me to take a photo of… Read more >

Never leave a man behind

Let’s start with dessert(s).  I had three times the bowl you see below.  Heavy on the candied ginger.   In case you were wondering, the Whole Foods on the westside have finally restocked their candied ginger supply, so this is their brand (as opposed to the Trader Joe’s kind that I’ve been hoarding for the past few months).  Whole Foods’ ginger is crystallized, so there is more sugar, but it’s also spicier.  I prefer the spicy kind.    Check it.  A mitten shaped piece! After I had sated my sweet tooth, I made food for… Read more >

I worked this weekend which was whatever.  I don’t feel like talking about it.  I do feel like sharing my packed up eats though.    I made a pumpkin raisin chia pudding the day before, so I added some of it to my overnight oats, along with a banana.  Here’s the mix all stirred up together…   Soaking raisins plumps them up to such a delightful state! Here’s the rest of the goodies…carrots, corn nuts, granola bar, banana bread, candied ginger, salty dark chocolate. I have been storing these dried fruit and nut granola bars… Read more >

Make your own mix

I have a pie-related question. Ridiculous or genius?  You tell me.  The thing is, the “pumpkin pie” spices are ones you probably already have in your pantry: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, & allspice. The only difference is now you can buy it pre-assembled.  And as we all know, humans are suckers for anything that  increases efficiency and reduces labor…even if it only saves 0.6 seconds.  Totally worth it.  Right?  Maybe not.  It costs $5 at Whole Foods and it’s not even organic.  So I’ll just make my own thankyouverymuch.   Sweet Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix 1… Read more >
