pizza dough

I did it again

After a less than amazing pasta performance by teese cheese, I decided to go back to the OG use.  Why mess with perfection?   Pizza! Dough recipe here.    I was really in the mood for a kale salad on the side, but we didn’t have any kale.  I could have just used spinach, but I wasn’t feeling it.  Luckily I had these kale chips on hand.    These kale chips are so good.  They snap off like deliciously fresh, crispy baked greens, and the nutty tahini coating makes them melt in your mouth like… Read more >

Time and a half

Knowing my friends are frolicking in the sun while I’m begging patients to go on walks and administering suppositories…it’s tough.  It doesn’t matter HOW much you love your job, when the weekend arrives and others are not working and you are, it’s just a bummer.  Holiday weekends are especially difficult.  My three day weekend was spent in the hospital.  Wah wah.  Ordinarily, I avoid 3-in-a-rows like I avoid C. diff, but knowing I was getting Memorial Day pay (time and a half) and the weekend differential made it sort-of okay.  After all my income has… Read more >

Too much lunch

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s impossible to make crock-pot meals look appetizing.    The night before photo looks like tomato and almond milk soup.  Gross.  The next morning photo looks like old crusty cornbread.  Double gross. What it actually had was: 1 cup corn meal 2 1/2 cups water 1 cup plain almond milk 10 cherry tomatoes (I punctured them with a knife before hand) 1 tbsp grain mustard 1 tsp fresh parsley, chopped pinch salt   Started at midnight…6 hours later…I was still asleep…but it was ready for Kyle.  That’s why half… Read more >

Philly: Vegan pizza

Around 4 pm, I hit a wall.  Kyle did too. One cup of coffee and one hour of sleep do not make a winning pair. Starbucks run! Kyle discovered his new favorite treat, a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino (try saying that five times fast…or after certain red-eye conditions).  We also got my mom a Coffee Frappuccino (her first one I think?).  We are such enablers.  It was Frappuccino happy hour though, so it was a decision made purely from an economical stand point.  I [thought] I ordered a grande iced coffee with room for soy… Read more >

DC: A Pizza Town

Our first day in DC was a really productive one.    We were up and out the door at a pretty impressive time.  Starting at the WWII Memorial, we headed to the Vietnam Wall, followed by the Lincoln Memorial, and then the Korean War Memorial.          You’d think that would have tired us out, but we pushed on, continuing past the Washington Memorial to the Holocaust Museum. But since it was already busy, we got tickets to return (at 3 pm) and decided to make use of the down time by… Read more >
