I will never make tofu any other way. I promise this technique will make everyone who previously thought they didn’t like tofu change their mind. And yes, there’s a recipe at the end of this post, too. But first, the technique. 1) Press extra firm tofu until it’s bone dry. Ok, that’s an exaggeration, it doesn’t have to be completely dry, but the longer you press it, the better your tofu will turn out. 2) Slice your tofu into slabs ~1 cm thick. 3) Coat tofu slices in all purpose flour. [I poured 1/2 cup… Read more >

This past week has been work heavy, which is why I’ve been doing more recipe posts. But my sister hates recipe posts prefers other material (and isn’t afraid to let me know it), so here’s a recap of my weekend. Starting with Friday… I made peanut butter. I made a spinach and pumpkin seed pate. I made bread. I made pancakes. I ate pancakes. I made seitan. I made tofu. And after spending most of the day in the kitchen, Kyle and I opted for a dinner out. We walked to… Read more >

Umm, I still have last week’s food on my computer. Sooo, that’s weird. It’s been a while since I’ve blogged an entire day’s eats (so many recipes!). Why not share 24 hours full of food? [or whatever portion of the day I was awake] I woke up at 4:30 for work because I’m crazy and like shorting myself an hour of sleep to exercise before I’m on my feet for 12 hours straight. Helloooo sarcasm. On the way to work (at 6:25 am) I enjoyed a [raw] Cardamom Almond Biscotti by TwinCakes Bakery. I… Read more >

It’s true that I eat oatmeal almost every day. I don’t think it’s boring, but that’s me. I get questions rather frequently about how I make them…and while I never measure things as I go, I figured I should respond to the inquiries. So last night, as I prepped for the work day, I got out the measuring cups and noted each and every step for you guys. Ready? This is the basic framework. 3/4 cup dry whole rolled oats 2 tbsp chia seeds 1/4 cup raisins (no more or I risk overloading… Read more >

I realize it’s a new year and I am supposed to be looking forward or whatever, but I didn’t get to celebrate my holiday until the 30th…so excuse the delay. After being on vacation for most of December, I went straight back to work through Christmas…and beyond. Hospitals obviously don’t shut down because it’s Christmas (if only Santa could make that happen). Fortunately, I am now back on the West Coast (holler!) which makes travel around the end of the year MUCH easier. Driving up the coast vs. flying across the country? No brainer. … Read more >
