Roasty Toasty Cocoa Nuts

This is probably the easiest recipe ever.  I almost feel like a fraud using the word “recipe.” As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been hankering for sweets in a major way lately.  Lord knows I have plenty of chocolate on hand, but what I was really craving was something more snack-like. I went to Whole Foods in search of something to satisfy my appetite… Sweet AND snacky?  What oh what could possibly meet such demanding criteria!?!  [sarcasm] After discovering they were out of candied ginger (the tragedy!!), I made my way to the bulk bins aisle. … Read more >

Coco & Cocoa & Cacao

Oh my!? It’s been a sweet sweet weekend so far in Hippie-land.  I’ll spare my male readers from any gory PMS details, but I think it’s pretty clear that my body’s chocolate cravings are well founded [as if you ever need an excuse to stuff your face with sweets!?]. My vampire schedule came to an end this week, and luckily enough, I slept like a baby through Thursday night.  It felt awesome.  And when I say that I slept like a baby, what I mean is I slept like a comatose patient, because my blackberry… Read more >

Synch the schedule

Sunday’s commute back down the I-5 was, well, whatever.  It’s done, so there’s not much to say about it.  I had packed many food options for the road since I was convinced it was going to take us 8 hours.  In the end, we arrived by 2 pm. I’m pretty sure I was meant to be a Brit because in my book, 2 pm is – without fail – afternoon tea time (not to be confused with high tea, which in fact is dinner-time tea).  In any event, I had an almond milky Tazo chai tea… Read more >

20 hours of giving thanks

On Thursday morning Kyle and I woke up at 2:50 am.  The things you do to avoid LA traffic… We had already loaded the car the night before, so all we needed was coffee, diet soda (yes, desperate times call for desperate measures) and water, and we were off!  The beloved I-5 may have been pitch black, but it was also car free.  I was behind the wheel until 7 am, at which point my tired eyes and nearly-bursting bladder got their way.  Four straight hours with a gallon of liquids (mostly diuretics)…you do the… Read more >

Nursing 101

Take care of yourself.  You can’t take care of patients if you’re sick, so neglecting your own health is as good as bailing on your patients.  You know…that whole apply your own oxygen mask first analogy… That’s what we learned in nursing school.  But I have to be honest; I don’t know many nurses who follow that advice.  And today, I fell victim as a result.  Nursing fail. It all started with a crappy night’s sleep.  I woke up 4 times drenched in sweat.  Those were the first red flags.  Ignored.  I still got up… Read more >
