Operation Elimination

Prepping for the “elimination phase” of the FODMAPS diet was a bit daunting at first.  I found myself looking up individual foods constantly to see what their chemical structure was (and if they contained FODMAPS).  But once I started to get the hang of it, I came up with lots of meal ideas. My meals will continue to be plant-based, but I want to try and make this as helpful as possible for all my fellow IBSers, so please note, the starred (*) items are for those who aren’t vegan. A breakfast

Breakfast is the meal that has been the easiest while I’m in the FODMAPS elimination phase because nothing much has changed.  I typically eat oats with various add-ins (nuts, nut butters, etc.), all of which are FODMAPS free.  The only real change is having to monitor which fruits (fresh and/or dried) I throw into the mix. Caravan of (live) dreams

Not surprisingly, my cookie breakfast didn’t hold my appetite at bay for very long.  When halftime of the first round of football games hit, Kyle and I headed to lunch.   I had to show Kyle the menu for this place before he agreed to go because the name of the restaurant really scared him.  I’ll admit, Caravan of Dreams is on the moon goddess fairy dream weaver end of the hippie spectrum…but the food makes up for the “out there” nature of the name.  They offer a variety of vegan and raw courses, but… Read more >

New and Tender

Guess what finally opened!!! Tender Greens’ new Santa Monica location!  I have been waiting for this for quite some time (remember last week when I tried to go and it wasn’t open yet?).  While I was thrilled to learn that it was opening this past weekend, I was sad that it happened while I was away in NYC. Naturally I made a beeline for the place as soon as we got back in town. 🙂 I took Kyle and my girlfriend Lauren with me. Lauren got the Harvest salad with Organic Fruit, Artisan Cheese, Local… Read more >

Angelinos at Angelica

As Kyle and I headed to dinner on the eve of September 11th, the sky was illuminated with a beam of light where the twin towers once stood.  It was both eerie and inspiring and when I saw it I thought of each person who’s life changed that day.  I know that this post is from last week (and therefore old news), so I won’t share my reflections on 9/11, but it was a very patriotic weekend to be in NYC.  If there were a way to feel proud and somber at the same time,… Read more >
