All work

And no play makes Elise a repetitive eater. Rather than subject you all to the same exact meal (times twenty), I’ll show my hippie bowl once and move on to my work food. Quinoa, carrots, spinach, seitan, avocado, nutritional yeast, Bragg’s aminos. After a few bad days, where I was carelessly eating wheat and agave (FODMAPs no-no) like it was going out of style, I knew I needed to get my GI tract back on track. Feeling bloated (and a bunch of other less-internet friendly terms) is the worst. So! I did what I know… Read more >

Breakfasts lately

For no intentional reason, I’ve broken away from oats this past week. Brown rice + bananas + blueberries + no-grain-ola + almond milk.   Not that you need a play-by-play, but here’s the deal.  I made a massive amount of brown rice (in the rice cooker), but day old rice needs a little moisture.  So I re-heated it in the microwave with almond milk.    Then I added some frozen bloobs, which quickly thawed once they met the warm rice.  Plus bananas.   And finally, I topped it off with a bunch of nutty granola…. Nerding out

So my latest hobby is going on long walks while listening to the Nerdist podcasts.  I am in love with any guests that are funny, but bonus points go to people from The Office, Mad Men, or The League (aka the best shows on tv netflix).  If they could get Tina Fey (and/or Alec Baldwin) on the show my life would be complete.  I’m a nerd. In other news.   I recently conducted my own almond milk-off between my all time fave Blue Diamond’s Almond Breeze and Silk’s (new) unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Silk previously… Read more >

Coconut holes

Or macaroons.  Or dough bites.  Or balls.  Whatever.  The variety of names for these treats is endless.  They are essentially coconut and chia seeds held together by a little bit of liquid and nut butter.  So very simple.  I’m not claiming I invented them or anything – I’m sure there’s a version of these on many other blogs out there.  But here’s what went into mine. Coconut holes [vegan, gluten free, soy free, FODMAPs free – makes 9 golf ball sized holes] 1 cup + 1/2 cup shredded coconut 1/3 cup maple syrup 1 tbsp… Read more >

A three-fer

Not meatballs. I should have made a bigger batch of these coconut macaroon things because Kyle ate half of them before I even tried one.   Work food.  Banana.  Carrots.  Macaroons. It would probably blow your mind to know how many carrots we go through in our little hippie household.  I eat half a pound a day, minimum.  If our fridge were bigger it would be packed with orange.  As it is, we have one crisper drawer solely devoted to those two pound bags (plural). Almond milk is another thing we seem to restock at… Read more >
