A long time ago I was contacted by Wholesome Chow, a company that sells vegan (and some gluten-free) baking mixes. They sent me a vanilla cake mix – vegan, organic, fair trade, casein, peanut, wheat & gluten free.  The ingredients are all recognizable (always a good thing) and the company has eco-friendly practices , plus they use locally sourced ingredients. TGI…

I worked on Saturday, so my Friday wasn’t really a TGIF kind of day.  To summarize the AM: cereal, bike ride, window shopping.  I had two Turlock multi-grain pitas with hummus for lunch and a veggie burger a la mode.   Hummus gone.  🙁   In terms of fizz KeVita < Synergy, in terms of calories it’s the reverse.  Flavor-wise I go back and forth.  Depends on what I’m in the mood for. Elise lately

Here’s an odd development that I feel like sharing… I seem to have developed an aversion to coffee.  This is frightening to me and I keep waiting for the phase to pass, but it’s been a week and I still can’t finish off my morning cuppa joe.  Tea’s been doing the trick. It’s pretty bizarre that I could go from a caffeine worshiper to, well, whatever I am now.  Hmmm. Ugly but delicious

This is probably one of the most hideous recipes I’ve ever produced.  It has pretty ingredients, but when they all come together…well, I’ll admit, it doesn’t exactly scream gourmet.  It does, however, have that comfort food look.    All you need is a slow cooker, a head of broccoli, some cheese, and almond milk.   I figured the best way to salvage a nearly dead bunch of broccoli was to cook the sh!t out of it so I threw it in the slower cooker with 5 oz. of vegan cheddar cheese, 1 cup of almond… Read more >

Much ado about nothing

Well, that whole 405 “carmaggedon” thing turned out to be quite a bust. After hearing months and months of hype, I think everyone was expecting the worst…which caused people to take extraordinary measures (like riding your bike to work and then spending the weekend sleeping over at your cousin’s house).
