A caffeine saga

I worked Monday and Tuesday.  This means that I’m now playing catch up in life and on the blog.  Being out of town this weekend meant that my pre-work food prep was minimal.  However, Kyle and I stopped on the way home from San Clemente for a huge grocery shopping trip, so it wasn’t a complete scavenger hunt.  For breakfast I mixed up my normal oat routine by adding in wheat bran.  Also in the mix was a chopped up baby yellow delicious apple, cinnamon, stevia, and raisins.  The wheat bran didn’t change much in… Read more >

Getting gifts from patients

I’m happy to report Thursday’s shift was MUCH better than Wednesday’s.  I had the same patients, but they were much more stable after the previous day’s shenanigans.  I actually prefer having the same patients regardless of how sick they are because there’s a level of familiarity for both me and the patient.  Plus, continuity of care minimizes the chances that stuff will get lost in communication between other care givers, and it’s nice to develop a rapport with them as well as a routine.  Speaking of routines. Orange you glad…

You didn’t work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?  I didn’t really mind it, since I got to celebrate early with my family.  On the 24th, I woke up early to sweat out a quick 20 minute Shred, which I followed up with a hearty tupperware full of overnight oats. I used 1/2 cup rolled oats and then mixed in an almost equal portion of canned pumpkin with only an itty bit of water.  This created a crazy thick consistency as it “gelled” overnight.  Other goodies included Tropical Traditions shredded coconut, dried cherries, and NuNatural liquid… Read more >

The (new) Veggie Grill

On Saturday night I was invited to a pre-opening meal at a new restaurant… [these are the perks of food blogging that Kyle really enjoys] You may have heard of The Veggie Grill before, since they have a few other locations in the Southern California area.  This new site is mere blocks from our apartment, so we were both excited to try it out (for free no less!).  Several staff members welcomed us upon arrival and then explained the menu, highlighting the favorites while encouraging us to browse it for ourselves.  We both ended up… Read more >
