Starting the day with savory

My Huckleberry addiction continued on Sunday morning with my parents, sister, and Kyle.  Since it was a weekend morning, the place was packed, but at least we got to watch them make bread while waiting in line.  And ogle over the baked goods.  Maple Bacon Biscuits.  Whole Wheat Raisin Scones.  Apple Almond Cake. Whole Wheat Fruit Slices.  Zucchini Teacake.  Blueberry Ciabatta.  Flatbread of the day. Macaroons.  Peanut Butter Cookies.  Whole Wheat Shortbread Cookies.  Ginger Teacake. Mini Chocolate Cupcakes.  Chocolate Chip Cookies.  So which look best to you?  If they were vegan, I’d be all over… Read more >

Bundles of mash

Last night I had dinner with my girls, Ethel and Alene. You’ve met them several times before.  Get to know them, because now that I’m back in So Cal, they’ll be making frequent appearances.  🙂 This was my contribution to dinner.  Pathetic. I did provide the recipe…but not really since it was in fact forwarded to me by my sister from Whole Foods. We kinda went rogue with the directions though…so here’s our adaptation. Photos first, recipe at the end… Arm workout #1 – avocado mashing Arm workout #2 – black bean mashing (source) I… Read more >

Creamy cashew buttah

When I was a young thang growing up in CA I loved the rain.  In elementary school indoor recesses were a novelty.  In junior high and high school, the rain meant we had an excuse to get insanely muddy (yes, I was a bit of a tomboy).  Especially playing soccer in the rain…so fun!  Cut to my years on the East Coast… In NYC I hated the rain.  I’m not really sure what prompted this drastic change of heart, but I suspect it had to do with the fact that there was ALWAYS the chance… Read more >

Vegan Enchiladas

Oh yes I did. This shiz will blow your cabeza.  I cannot put into words how awesome this recipe was.  Even Kyle was making googly eyes at it.  I have a feeling I am going to be making this with the same frequency as Lindsay Lohan’s relapses.  Ingredients: small green bell pepper (I used 2/3 medium bell pepper) 1/2 yellow onion 1 tbsp garlic (I used garlic gold nuggets) 1 tomatillo 1 can (2 cups) black beans 10 corn tortillas 4 oz. diced green chilies 1 tsp lime juice 1 tsp cayenne pepper 28 oz…. Boo!

Happy October!  (source) I love love love this month.  I probably always mention this, but October is my favorite month of the year.  It’s Halloween, the (real) onset of Autumn, and several family birthdays – including mine!!  And who doesn’t like their birth month?!? So yeah, I’m always excited when October arrives.  Even more exciting?  Today I signed all my job paperwork, so my date of hire is 10/1/10.  I’m a big numbers freak, and that’s about as good as it gets.  My favorite number is 5 and if you really want to know more… Read more >
