Here’s the deal with that Portobello & Kale Sauté with Peanut Ginger Rice… It was really good, but totally jacked up my GI tract. Would I eat it again? Ugh, I wish I could say no, but I know I will. The leftovers are in the fridge just waiting for me to give in to my moment of weakness. Sure I could offer them up to Kyle (he loved the meal as well and has been in a huge kale craving phase lately), but I’m kinda selfish when it comes to certain things (like… Read more >

Monday Risotto Tuesday Quinoa quiche. It’s a cheap and easy staple. Not much else to say. I wish I could tell you this provided leftovers…but we are oinkers. Wednesday Curry stir fry with quinoa. This was the star of the show. I’ve been working on actually going through our pantry and (gasp) using all the stuff I’ve been hoarding since the 2000s. I got this jar of Patak’s mild curry paste the same time (and place) I got these noodles. Now that I just googled the company, I see they have a ton of pastes… Read more >

What do we have here? Can you see what’s in there or do I need to zoom in for you. Oh hello there hippie bowl of yum. I cheated on the protein portion. Normally I make my own seitan. But I had to go to the co-op for an emergency purchase (almond milk) and ended up leaving with two impulse buys. Dang it! Budget fail. I’ve seen Upton’s Natural seitan on other blogs before, but never in the store. Or maybe I just wasn’t looking. Either way I found it now, and they have… Read more >

Thank you to everyone who commented on yesterday’s post. I feel much better having gotten that off my chest…you guys are so wonderful and supportive. No more whining from now on (yeah right…). Lovely lovely lacinato. The deep green color is somehow so intriguing. I think it’s easier to eat raw than regular kale too. Pre-dressing it before meal time means it’s texture and flavors are perfect when I dig in. This salad came together pretty quickly, but I had all the ingredients pre-made, so it does require some planning ahead. Kale Krunch Salad Ingredients:… Read more >

We went out to dinner last week. It’s been cold and rainy in Santa Monica, which calls for real Fall clothes. Bump peek-a-boo. Now you see it, now you don’t. We went to True Food Kitchen, an easy choice as it’s within walking distance and the menu accommodates all dietary needs. We shared the kale salad to start (parm on the side). And I got “the natural” to drink (a sweet ginger fizzy drink). Not wanting to be predictably repetitive, I DIDN’T get the TLT sandwich or the tofu rice bowl, and instead went… Read more >
