Bud Light Bread

How exactly can beer and pizza be healthy?  Well, it depends on how you make them, I guess.  You can use 100% Whole Wheat flour for instance. And light beer. And you can use Brendan Brazier’s recipe for “pizza sauce.” But in the end, all that matters is if it tastes good.  And it did. Last month, I bookmarked a very intriguing recipe from my fave healthy everythingtarian in which she made pizza dough using beer.  If your reaction to this news is anything like mine was, you’re probably chomping at the bit in anticipation… Read more >

Land ho!

I set my alarm this morning for 7 am.  It’s been a while since I’ve set my alarm (I’m on summer vacation, yo!) but we had places to be! On the way to Port Townsend, we stopped at Deception Pass State Park.  First we pulled over to marvel at Pass Lake.  It was covered in a thick mist making it both gorgeous and eerie.  We were the only ones around and it felt so peaceful.  Nature is a wonder.  As if Pass Lake wasn’t therapeutic enough, we then came upon Deception Pass. The Deception Pass… Read more >

Ready in the flashiest of flashes

The other night I pulled off dinner from start to finish in 10 minutes flat.  Now I’m fairly certain the leftovers on hand were the supporting actors that allowed this to go down, but I also think this meal could be reproduced in an almost similar time frame again (give or take a few seconds depending on my knife skills). Fresh (and very juicy) pineapple. Leftover quinoa + leftover steamed kale. Teriyaki tofu As you can see, simply dicing ingredients and tossing them together isn’t exactly rocket science, but it is tasty. All I added… Read more >

Ups-kale snacking

I have a plethora of kale on hand (in addition to time to think up pun filled post titles), so expect mucho leafy greens in the near future.  Kale chips?  Why not!  I’ve made them before (here), but (as you’d expect) Kyle’s parents don’t have nooch hanging around in their pantry, so I decided to make up a new recipe on the spot (and then crossed my fingers that it would turn out to be tasty)!  My previous batches of kale chips have all been “cheesy” ones, so this was my first non-nooch kale chip… Read more >

Keen on quinoa

My titles are just oh-so-clever, aren’t they? In my previous post, I professed my love for Terry Walters and her brilliant cookbook, Clean Food. Well, as you can see, I just can’t get enough of her recipes.  And since quinoa is one of my favorite foods ever (and thanks to Costco we just bought enough to feed all of the Middle East), it was an obvious choice for dinner.  In true Elise fashion, I made several adjustments to the recipe.  Does anyone ever follow them verbatim? Based on what we had on hand, our personal… Read more >
