Forget this Black Friday business, I’m too stuffed to function. I am actually having a hard time looking at the food photos I have from Thanksgiving…but the pictures of the kiddos…I could look at those all day. It may be a while before I can comfortably post Thursday’s meal(s), but I have pre-feast work food to share. First up, a peanut flour/oat breakfast. In addition to oats and peanut flour, I stirred in some home-made granola and chia seeds as well. Sometimes my breakfast bowls look semi-watery and I occasionally get questions… Read more >

Happy Thanksgiving!! [slash happy birthday to my sister] I’ve been working all week, so I don’t have anything that’s current to share. Mostly my same old same old. In lieu of a post about my work food, I’m just going to recap the remainder of my hangover recovery from last Sunday. But first, a simple THANK YOU to my readers. I love writing, but I admit it’s all the more enjoyable knowing there are other people out there who like reading my musings (besides my in-laws). I have a ton to be grateful for… Read more >

I never quite know when I’m going to get home on work days, but it’s usually around 8 pm. Showering is always my priority, which means dinner time is further delayed. This is why I do so much food prep (because there’s nothing more annoying than being starving and staring into an empty fridge). My essentials include greens and cooked grains. After 8 months and 30 (ish?) countries, my sister is officially back in The States. Her luggage isn’t, but that’s a different issue. I hadn’t actually touched base with her over the phone since mid-October, so it was nice to finally hear her voice again. Of course within 10 minutes of catching up, she told me some things she thought I needed to work on blog-wise. Ummm…thanks for the input Laura. ;) So this post is for her. There will be no recipes. Instead, I’ll share some of the other more random things that I’m… Read more >

Each day when I get to work I am assigned a cell phone with my own extension (all the nurses and care partners are). I have the phone with me for all 12 hours of my shift. Everyone has my number. Everyone. Sometimes, it’s a bit much. Case in point… Radiology: Is patient X able to come down for his PA/LAT now? Does he need oxygen? Any isolation? Patient room: Can I get pain meds? Lab: Critical value for patient Y, their PTT is 121 [yikes!] Pharmacy: The medication order for patient Z needs clarification,… Read more >
