Is there anything better than a warm mug of chai tea with almond milk? If so, I’d love to try it. Chai infused breakfasts oats are a start. And Chai cookies are in my future. But for now, I’m going to delight in the simplicity of this tea. Work food. Oatmeal with ground flax seeds, blueberries and vanilla almond milk. Fried millet with veggie and hard boiled egg. Carrots, banana, candied ginger as snacks. Not my usual haul because this was for an 8 hour day, not the full 12. Luckily we were done with… Read more >

That last post had some pretty scenery from the weekend, but not a lot of eats. Here’s a recap of last weekend at home, in food format. To start the road trip off on the right foot, I got a big kale, spinach, beet, carrot, and ginger juice. Pink pee is especially fun when you’ve been holding your bladder for 4 hours. We stopped twice on the drive home and arrived in L-town just in time for dinner. I had a pumpkin Bolani and salad. The next morning we slept in, which meant coffee and… Read more >

These past few days my appetite has been ravenous. [I haven’t done any form of exercise, though, so it’s definitely odd. But my body is far from normal, so I just went with it.] Take breakfast for instance, usually a tupperware of oatmeal with the fixins will hold me over pretty well. I had a banana and breakfast cookie and praised the Lord when I saw… Read more >

This week’s grain was millet. It’s small, gluten free, and has a cornbread like taste. I make it in the rice cooker, like I do with everything else, using the same water to grain ratio as rice, quinoa, and couscous. Honestly, it’s impossible to mess things up in a rice cooker. This one just so happened to be especially on the money…because when I went to scoop it into a tupperware it came out as easy as could be, no spoon required. Literally. This is from flipping the bowl upside down. I actually attempted to… Read more >

Kyle and I celebrated our Valentine’s Day early. We just used the holiday as an excuse to hit up a restaurant that’s been on our mind for a while. Akasha is one of those places that has a menu for true foodies. It’s based around fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients – with vegetable quinoa listed next to Niman Ranch beef burgers. I love a diverse menu packed with yummy quality ingredients. Ok, before I get ahead of myself, I have to show you what my poor husband has to deal with on a daily… Read more >
