DC: The Capitol & Open City

I wanted to call this post “The Capitol Building Incident” but I thought it sounded a bit too dramatic.  After my identity crisis earlier in the trip, I feel like you guys may start to think I’m some kind of magnet for drama.  Not the case. After lunch at sweetgreen, we set off to check out the Crime & Punishment museum.  Sounds kinda cool, right?  Turns out the tickets for admission are $22 per person.  We weren’t about to drop a hundred dollars for an hour of our time, so instead we wandered to the… Read more >

Finding Falafel Republic

The worst thing about falling in love with a product is becoming obsessed with it and then having it get discontinued.  This is why I have a love/hate relationship with Trader Joe’s and Costco.  I LOVE when I discover awesome new CHEAP veggie products.  But I HATE when I return to the grocery store to replenish my stash and it’s nowhere to be found.  And it happens ALL the time! Areas of Expertise

I consider myself an expert in two areas.  Hummus Granola Hippie staples, right?  I make damn good versions of both, but when it comes right down to it, certain brands can do wondrous things, thereby blowing my own creations out of the water.  We all know which hummus brand I prefer (I’m fairly transparent on the blog – hint: rhymes with jabra).    [Truthfully, I don’t think our fridge has been without Sabra.  Ever.] But until recently, I preferred my own quinoa granola to almost every store bought kind on the market.  This recipe gets… Read more >

Phoning it in

Weekend by iPhone.  Ready, go! Saturday I had an open faced breakfast sando with avocado and two fried eggs. Then Kyle’s parents came over and we went to Hollywood. We had tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld do stand-up at the Pantages theatre. So excited!! We parked at Hollywood & Highlands and walked to get an early dinner at Tender Greens.  It wasn’t [yet] rainy, but it was cold and windy, so I was definitely ready for something warm. Tea 🙂   I got the Happy Vegan (as per usual) with a side of roasted brussels,… Read more >

(belated) holiday party

Last year Kyle and I hosted a holiday party and it was so much fun we decided to make it an annual event.  But since we were out of town for most of December it wasn’t really possible. So we just postponed the event until January! This year’s party eats were some of the same, but a few new things too. Drink menu: Wine Champagne Beer POM-tinis Blueberry Vodka Lemonade CalNaturale provided the Cab Sauv and the Chardonnay for the evening.  Both are made with 100% organic grapes (from Paso Robles and Mendocino respectively) and… Read more >
