Four day weekend [part 2]

Laziness continued.     Coffee. Coffee. Fruit. Coffee. A perfect Sunday morning (“morning” being used loosely since I slept in a LOT).    Random fact: I really love fruit salad but I never make it because I like it when it’s already at least a day old.  That means I have to plan ahead so I get the exact level of oxidized fruit.  I also think that bananas are the essence of any good fruit salad.    That’s why I made this salad the night before.  It had apples, strawberries, pineapple, blackberries, and bananas.  If it… Read more >

Four day weekend [part 1]

Is there anything better than a long weekend?  Yes.  And that’s a long weekend house dog sitting here. With sunny weather, golf course views, and a well stocked fridge, there’s no reason to venture further than the community pool.  Agreed? We drove down to San Juan Capistrano on Thursday evening and stayed through Monday.  Some friends joined us for part of the time.  We cooked.  We ate.  We drank.  We relaxed.  The weekend may as well be titled “blissful nothingness”.  It was perfect. When we first arrived, the priority was dinner.  That’s what 3 hours… Read more >

New Sabra (& giveaway winner)

You have corn tortillas, falafel, Sabra’s latest hummus, and a grilled green pepper.  What to do, what to do… Spoiler alert: this did not come remotely close to wrapping up.    Not to worry.  I took matters into my own hands.  Literally. And now for the giveaway winners!! #35 hipveganchic eggnog all the way? how on earth did they come up with that? pure genius!!! #70 Shelby (everydayvegangirl) Oh gosh, do I have to pick one?!?!? They all look decadent, but the salty chocolate is calling me!

The return flight

Not having my ID turned out to be way more of an issue on the return flight.  DCA’s security is definitely more on top of it, as compared to LAX’s nonchalant approach to check-in.  On the cab ride to the airport, Kyle’s mom and I decided we wouldn’t bother lying.  If they asked me how old I was, I’d just be honest and then we’d go through the appropriate (read: legal) channels to get clearance to fly without an ID card.  I don’t know what came over me, though, because that whole plan went out… Read more >

DC: LPQ

I was wet.  I was cold.  I was tired.  I was in the mood for something familiar. And so Kyle and I went across the street to Le Pain Quotidien, a bakery and cafe with a veg friendly menu that I already know and love. Sorry about the lack of light.  I started with tea.   We shared two appetizers.  First, the soup of the day, a (vegan) broccoli soup.  And second, the seasonal tartine with sweet pea hummus, garden vegetables and smoked tea vinaigrette. I’d had this particular dish on my mind for a… Read more >
