Rumor has it, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And when you think about it, if such decadent oats (like the almond, cashew & apple packed number above) are my morning baseline, then things are looking pretty good. This bowl makes me want to sing “on top of old smokeyyyy” and I have no idea why. Anyone else remember that song? Hmmm…may need to wikipedia it. Edited to add: On Top Of Old Smoky is about some mountain that may or may not be in the Ozarks or the central Appalachians…but the… Read more >

So. Effing. Tasty. This was so much more simple than I thought it would be. I’m never buying granola again (yeah right), but still…I know what I like in my cereal so why wouldn’t I make it to my exact specifications? Right? My favorite things: 1. Clusters – textural variety is the most important part of cereal, oats, granola…shoot any food! 2. Crunch – none of this raw muesli bullsh!t, I want toasty! 3. Dried fruit and nuts – not one or the other, both. 4. Ratios – I like it when there are even… Read more >

I was going to try and throw down a quick recap of this “holiday” weekend, but alas, my ramblings got the best of me…it may be picture dense, but it’s not so quick. Saturday was the main event, if you will, but Friday was pretty sweet too. Kyle and I made a Costco run – always dangerous when you’re a foodie living on a student budget. Key purchases worth noting… Almond Butter (this jar is the size of my head) Sabra hummus x3 including spinach artichoke and roasted pine nut flavors plus individual mini tubs… Read more >

Just wanted to let you know what is coming your way… Any guesses? I haven’t forgotten about my alphebruary challenge…I’m just behind in recipe sharing. This “q” treat, however, is VERY worth the wait. I know everyone was wondering how those weird letters were going to be – particularly q, w, x, and z. But shockingly, these haven’t even been my biggest obstacles. There are some surprisingly letters (i, o, u – for instance) with minimal food options. Damn vowels aside, I knew from day one of this month’s adventure that my q dish was… Read more >

Yes, I ate more than my arame-zing salad yesterday. I had breakfast (Alvarado Street sprouted bread with peanut butter, banana slices, and cinnamon). Lunch (wrap). And dinner. My latest batch of log seitan was in both lunch and dinner. I used this same recipe/method but kneaded it longer, which made for a much denser log. The lunch wrap had Alvarado Street sprouted tortilla, spinach, seitan, and a delicious avocado/hummus spread. One (whole) avocado + one (huge) scoop of roasted red pepper hummus One squeeze of lime juice + one dash of paprika I spread some… Read more >
