My appetite was a monster the other day. Not a little monster either, a BIG a$$ monster. I didn’t have work, so I let myself sleep in a bit, but once my alarm went off at 8, my stomach was growling like an overly-protective Rottweiler. That’s not typical for me. My stomach usually needs a few minutes (or an hour) to warm up to the idea of calories. If you know me, you know I’m not a morning person, but my stomach is even less so. Ordinarily I ease it in with coffee…today, though, I… Read more >

I blasted music from the Nutcracker all morning long, and it actually made the horrible weather not seem so bad. I’ll have to remember that trick for the future… Frothy coffee and an english muffin stuffed with peanut butter helped, too. But what REALLY warmed my heart was all your sweet comments on my weighty post. You guys are so awesome. Seriously. In continuing the Q&A session…the next question on the agenda is why and how did I come to be vegan? I figure if you know me in real life or read on a semi-reg basis, you know how I eat. Vegan shmegan. I’m not big on labels, and my food preferences are more motivated by how my GI system reacts, not so much my personal feelings on consuming animal products. That said, this answer requires far more extensive background info, so I’ll start from the beginning. My mom is (was) a vegetarian and raised the… Read more >

Fact: I could wash down dirt with foamy coffee and still be happy. Fact: Spending 15 minutes trying to fix a broken toaster can lead you to dark places. Good thing God invented peanut butter for such moments. Fiction: A microwave is just as good as a toaster anyways. Fact: Apples + cinnamon = the perfect fall snack Fiction: Taking a cross-town bus after coffee and fiber loading is a smart idea. Fact: Bathrooms aren’t abundant on the Upper East Side. Fact: In terms of pita pockets, there is no such thing as TOO stuffed…. Read more >
