Is Kyle’s birthday. We are celebrating for reals later on this week with a date night (!!). My mom is going to babysit. It’s exciting. Today, though, we have been hanging out enjoying the fact that we are all three together. We’ve already gone on a nice walk and the rest of the day includes season 2 of Downton Abbey and take-out from Veggie Grill (birthday coupons = free entree, heyooo). Oh and I made cake! And frosting! Both are vegan and sugar free. I’ll post about it later. Last night I made a… Read more >

This past weekend was the first time in a couple of years that I skipped Expo West. I had a ticket and everything, but I just didn’t see the point in trying to make it work. I guess this is evidence that my priorities have shifted. I like free samples and keeping on pulse with the latest natural food trends, but I like family bonding time more. Lucky for me, my in-laws were there to scout out the scene in my absence. They reported back and then some…with tons of samples for me to review. … Read more >

During the first month at home, here’s what a typical day with our family of three looks like… 7 am: Wake up (for good). I usually don’t go back to sleep after P decides he’s hungry between 6-8 am. He eats every 2-4 hours or so throughout the night (it’s occasionally more frequent during the day) so if it’s before 6 am I usually try to go back to sleep again, but if it’s after that I just get up. Kyle showers while I change and breast feed and then brings the pack ‘n… Read more >

The first couple of weeks have flown by. It’s what everyone said would happen, and it is definitely the truth. The food in the hospital was okay. [I work at the same place I gave birth to P so I know exactly where the menu and cafeteria excel and fall short] Whoever told me the first meal after birth would be the best thing I ever ate lied. I didn’t take a photo of it, but I got two slices of french toast and a banana. Remember how much I adore the hospital’s french toast? … Read more >

That’s the name of the meal I ordered at brunch on Saturday. Kyle’s parents took us to Real Food Daily, my favorite breakfast spot in Santa Monica. I love this place so much I’ve stopped linking to it on my restaurants tab because I’ve been at least a dozen times. My plate’s the one on the upper left. It has two (gluten free) pancakes, scrambled tofu (with onions, tomatoes, & cashew cheese), tempeh bacon, and hash browns. Holy breakfast right? You can choose between fruit or hash browns (can’t say no to fried taters!)… Read more >
