Flashback Friday: Hawaiian honeymoon day 2

On our second day in Kauai, we decided to venture to another part of the island for a hike.  The weather was on and off drizzle and rain, so it’s a good thing we didn’t go with the convertible rental…  Nature lovers. Waimea Canyon was breathtaking.  I’ve never seen a canyon before and it was a pretty cool phenomenon.  At 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,500 feet deep, it is the largest canyon in the Pacific and truly a dramatic sight.  But almost as thrilling was the number of roosters.  It… Read more >

‘Aint nothing wannabe about it

Evan’s vegan fudge is no joke.  I can’t put it into words.  I mean, look at that! Still not sure why he’s a “wannabe” chef.  As far as I’m concerned, this dessert is about as close to heaven as it gets.  For Evan’s recipe, click here.  I altered mine because I didn’t have some of the ingreds on hand, so I made the following changes. Ingredients: 1 cup vegan chocolate chips 2 tbsp. cocoa powder 1/2 cup coconut oil vegan butter substitute the Earth Balance was empty when I opened it 1/8 cup almond milk… Read more >

Garden Therapy

Moving back to CA, one of the things I was most looking forward to was having a balcony.  A balcony allows me to have two very important things: 1) a BBQ 2) a garden Ok, it’s not quite a garden, yet.  But it’s getting there… As an early birthday present from my in-laws, I got organic rosemary, basil, and thyme to give my green thumb a jump start.  Since it was raining the other day, I was in a zen kind of mood.  I blasted classical music on the iHome and got to work repotting… Read more >

Creamy cashew buttah

When I was a young thang growing up in CA I loved the rain.  In elementary school indoor recesses were a novelty.  In junior high and high school, the rain meant we had an excuse to get insanely muddy (yes, I was a bit of a tomboy).  Especially playing soccer in the rain…so fun!  Cut to my years on the East Coast… In NYC I hated the rain.  I’m not really sure what prompted this drastic change of heart, but I suspect it had to do with the fact that there was ALWAYS the chance… Read more >

Bruins, birthdays, and BBQs

Saturday was sponsored by the letter “b” apparently.  Kyle and I woke up at 7 am to get in a morning jog.  I hate working out early in the AM, but I love how it frees up the rest of the day.  So conflicting.  The reason I don’t like rise-and-shine cardio is because I suck at it.  I’m slow in the mornings.  I don’t really start to function until an hour (or two, if I’m being honest) after I’ve been awake.  The route I took Saturday morning typically takes me 24 minutes (when I do… Read more >
