A few days of hippie bowls

Going into the weekend I had all my meals ready to go.  Starting with Thursday night, I made a typical hippie bowl.   If I had to choose a combination of ingredients to eat forevermore it would probably be these: quinoa, carrots, corn, seitan, avocado     I recently got a question about the ratio of grain to veg to protein in my “hippie bowl” type meals.  In all honesty, I don’t consciously compose them with a specific ratio in mind, but if I had to guess I’d say it is pretty much 1:1:1.  Sometimes… Read more >

Salty, sweet, savory, scrumptious

Any resemblance this sweet & salty snack has to an eight legged arthropod is completely unintentional. I made them on the late night because I was craving both chocolate and salt at the same time and couldn’t find anything on hand that would satisfy my sophisticated palate.    I would rather die before heading to bed with an un-sated appetite, so clearly I had to make something to get my dessert fix.  cocoa powder peanut flour water raw almonds pretzel sticks turbinado sugar (or stevia) Mix the cocoa, peanut flour, sugar, salt and water until… Read more >

Eating in & out

This past week has been work heavy, which is why I’ve been doing more recipe posts.  But my sister hates recipe posts prefers other material (and isn’t afraid to let me know it), so here’s a recap of my weekend. Starting with Friday…    I made peanut butter. I made a spinach and pumpkin seed pate. I made bread.   I made pancakes.   I ate pancakes. I made seitan. I made tofu.   And after spending most of the day in the kitchen, Kyle and I opted for a dinner out.  We walked to… Read more >

Chocolate is my friend

I think your taste buds must change over time because four years ago I thought nuts were disgusting and really wasn’t a fan of dark chocolate.  At all. I am still iffy on super dark chocolate (nothing over 80% thankyouverymuch), but I adore salty cashews and crave almond and peanut butter almost daily.  But that’s neither here nor there.  <— pointless tangent much? For the people who (still) don’t like nuts, this recipe is for you.  It’s also for my fellow chocoholics. How cute are these mini chocolate chips? What I ate (last) Wednesday

Umm, I still have last week’s food on my computer.  Sooo, that’s weird.  It’s been a while since I’ve blogged an entire day’s eats (so many recipes!).  Why not share 24 hours full of food?  [or whatever portion of the day I was awake] I woke up at 4:30 for work because I’m crazy and like shorting myself an hour of sleep to exercise before I’m on my feet for 12 hours straight.  Helloooo sarcasm.   On the way to work (at 6:25 am) I enjoyed a [raw] Cardamom Almond Biscotti by TwinCakes Bakery.  I… Read more >
