That would be the night shift. Oy. Why do they all go crazy when the sun sets? Why?!? That’s my attempt at taking a picture of the full moon. Mighty fine camera skills right thurr. As ridiculous as last night was (and trust me, it was plenty ridiculous), I made it home in one piece to curl up on the couch with a new Gossip Girl episode (finally!). And whatdoyouknow, this post seems to be making semi-sense, too (thus far…). Compared to Amy Winehouse, I have my sh!t together. Yesterday started the same as any… Read more >

This weather is truly fantastic, I’m so glad I don’t work again for a few days. Thursday was a pretty exciting work day thanks to my patient with blood glucose levels vacillating between 480 and 37. The twelve hours flew by so quickly I hardly found time to eat everything I packed. Kinda in love with these organic dried mangos. I used to snack on them all the time, but then I forgot about them. My sweet tooth is very much into dried fruit, and even though the mango looks like raw cattle hide,… Read more >

I worked Monday and Tuesday. This means that I’m now playing catch up in life and on the blog. Being out of town this weekend meant that my pre-work food prep was minimal. However, Kyle and I stopped on the way home from San Clemente for a huge grocery shopping trip, so it wasn’t a complete scavenger hunt. For breakfast I mixed up my normal oat routine by adding in wheat bran. Also in the mix was a chopped up baby yellow delicious apple, cinnamon, stevia, and raisins. The wheat bran didn’t change much in… Read more >

I’m happy to report Thursday’s shift was MUCH better than Wednesday’s. I had the same patients, but they were much more stable after the previous day’s shenanigans. I actually prefer having the same patients regardless of how sick they are because there’s a level of familiarity for both me and the patient. Plus, continuity of care minimizes the chances that stuff will get lost in communication between other care givers, and it’s nice to develop a rapport with them as well as a routine. Speaking of routines. I packed up my goods, as per usual…. Read more >

A few days ago Kailey posted about her idea of balance and then she encouraged others to share their own version. To me, balance is not getting stressed out about making things even and constant. It’s just not realistic pour moi. Because I work such long hours, but then have full days off in between, I know that each day will be new and different than the last. I work weekends, night shifts, day shifts, holidays, whatever. And I’m never sure of how my day will go either. Will my patient load be easy and… Read more >
