I’m not sure if it’s just me (it wouldn’t be the first time…), but sometimes I bake things and get sick of them after a few servings. Maybe that sounds lame – it’s just that I don’t necessarily want to eat banana bread every day for weeks in a row. I like diversity. I want to be able to have oats or toast or grits or something else in the morning without worrying about my precious baked goods going bad. Most of the time I end up freezing the leftovers (imagine how great of a… Read more >

My memory is gone. Apparently this pregnancy brain fog thing is the real deal. I forgot our garage code last month and had to call Kyle to remind me what it was (I have no idea how my mind blanked out about that since I punch in the four numbers so regularly). And I almost missed a work shift because I had my schedule wrong (I am so lucky the charge nurse called me a few hours beforehand otherwise I definitely would have been a no show at the hospital). I’m constantly going upstairs to… Read more >

In case you were wondering, the Whole Foods on the westside have finally restocked their candied ginger supply, so this is their brand (as opposed to the Trader Joe’s kind that I’ve been hoarding for the past few months). Whole Foods’ ginger is crystallized, so there is more sugar, but it’s also spicier. I prefer the spicy kind. Check it. A mitten shaped piece! After I had sated my sweet tooth, I made food for… Read more >

Ever since I tried Justin’s chocolate peanut butter cups I have been craving them for dessert. Every. Single. Night. It’s kinda a problem. Well, only because I can’t afford to continue the habit. I bought two packages on my first grocery trip. I had them back to back nights. I then went out of my way to take another trip to Whole Foods a few days later because those interim nights’ desserts were pathetic in comparison to the chocolate-y peanutty goodness that Justin’s treats possess. I really didn’t need any other groceries, but I needed… Read more >

If you didn’t know this already, you can make almost anything in a rice cooker. I use it mostly for quinoa. But it works for steel cut oats too. Look at that texture and crunch!! In case you were hoping for something more enlightening, I’m sorry to disappoint you, that was the tip. Steel cut oats topped in carob chips and bananas… And again. Because sometimes more is more. As for that announcement…the Thrive Foods giveaway winner is… #94 Casey “OOoh that recipe looks great! I’d ask Brendan what food combo is best… Read more >
