Herbed Bread Twists

Rise.    And shine. After a few recent failures, it’s such a relief to FINALLY have a success story with yeast dough.    Up until this point, the only loaves that were both edible and risen were from my bread machine, which lead me to believe I was unable to knead on my own. Hallelujah!       This dough is truly flexible and can be used for everything from bread twists, to soft pretzels, to pizza dough. Basic Dough: 1 1/2 cup warm water 1 tbsp sugar 2 1/4 tsp active yeast (1… Read more >

Multi-tasking like whoa

When are you most productive in the day?  Are you a morning person?  I’m not.  I don’t feel like cooking or baking in the morning (which is why I pack my work food the night before).  I generally hit my stride in the early afternoon, but every once in a while I’ll have a late night frenzy in the kitch. Last night was one of those nights.  We were out of bread.  We had black bananas.  We had raw home-made yeast dough that needed to meet it’s fate.  And I was feeling chef-tastic.  Count it… Read more >

Stuffing in Spring

I rarely care about special holiday meals on day’s I work (usually I just reschedule holiday celebrations* as it suits my hospital schedule), but for some reason I was dead set on an Easter Dinner that didn’t involve reheating leftovers.  However, as I already shared, I was at the hospital all weekend.  Which meant Kyle ditched Santa Monica to spend the holiday with his parents.  Which meant I was in charge of providing whatever “special something” I wanted for myself.  Cooking a real meal (without the microwave) after 12+ hours of nursing is ludicrous. … Read more >

A trail of oats & seeds

When I was younger I hated nuts and seeds in all forms, but I especially detested them in bread.  When my parents took us to fancy restaurants it made me so sad when the waiter would bring out the bread basket and it looked like the rolls were infested with ticks.  [The image of my dad using a burned out match to get a tick to crawl out of our dog’s skin was clearly very traumatic for me]  Aaaand now that I’ve grossed you out with that lovely visual… Would you like a recipe?… Read more >

They aren’t all amazing

I think there’s a misconception about how I eat.  For every new recipe I create and share with you guys, there are five others I don’t show because they look like this… Oatmeal with melty peanut butter, cinnamon, and raisins.  Not exactly reinventing the wheel with this one.   I don’t have magic spells that bake cakes while I’m at work (Sleeping Beauty reference anyone?), nor do I have ingenuity oozing from my pores.  Especially after 12 hours of nursing.   Simple is fine by me.   So whether it’s oats with the works or… Read more >
