Sisterly love

My sister came to visit this weekend so Kyle and I did our best to show off Santa Monica in all it’s glory.  The weather wasn’t cooperating, but despite the misty cloud cover, it was a weekend packed with fun. Friday morning we hiked to Inspiration Point in Will Roger’s State Park.  By the time we got back it was lunch time and Huckleberry was calling our names. Laura has heard me rave about Huckleberry so many times, it was an obvious choice for lunch. First we split the white bean dip with a slice… Read more >

Queasy

Ok.  Honestly?  I’m feeling a bit sick…great way to start off married life, huh?  It’s not surprising that an illness should strike now, after the intense go-go-go nature of the past month I guess I had it coming.  My body must’ve caught wind that my defenses are (finally) down.  Too much travel, too little sleep, and on top of it all, my eating habits have been ridiculously (and abnormally) erratic over the past week (see above breakfast of crackers & hummus).  I guess my immune system deserves a day off…I just hope a day doesn’t… Read more >

Visiting the vines

I’ve been meaning to introduce you all to the vineyard for quite some time now…but I, myself, hadn’t been to Healdsburg in a while. Fortunate for you, my Grandpa was kind enough to remind me that I was long overdue for a visit.  And fortunate for me, I remembered to bring along my camera.  Hello Zinfandel. Kyle and I left bright and early to arrive in Dry Creek Valley just as the clouds were clearing out.  It may be summer, but Sonoma mornings are still a tad overcast with AM fog.  In case you are… Read more >

The lost footage

My last two days in Lynden were borderline horrible.  Friday’s migraine sidelined me like a shot to the liver.  The worst is when you know it’s coming…and (unfortunately) I’m very familiar with the onset of migraines.  I used to get them all the time in high school – and I mean the whole she-bang – aura, nausea, pounding head. So yeah, the I second the halo appeared, I knew I was in for it.  What I didn’t count on was being out for so long!  Bummer.  Thank you all for your advice and kind words…. Read more >

Welcome to Boxx

I’m on “vacation” in Washington and I’m surrounded by farms.  Some may fail to see the positive side in this situation (ok, the constant smell of cattle manure isn’t exactly the town’s selling point), but in my opinion things don’t get much better (read: fresher than fresh produce).  It seems like everyone in town has their favorite source for fresh produce.  Some like Barbie’s Berries.  Some like The Green Barn.  But (as per my future in-laws) Boxx Farms is simply “the best.”  Naturally, I had to see the best for myself; so the other day,… Read more >
