Philly: Marathon

Don’t be deceived by the post title, I didn’t run a marathon in Philly. I hate using the word “chain” when describing restaurants because it tends to carry a certain (low quality) connotation.  Marathon is far from fast food, but they do have a few locations in Philadelphia.  You can read more about their urban farming initiative here if you’re so inclined.  The menu is seasonal, with some permanent items in the salad section.   As much as I wanted the Vegetable Capellini, we had to embrace the gorgeous weather and sit outside.  Meaning I… Read more >

DC: LPQ

I was wet.  I was cold.  I was tired.  I was in the mood for something familiar. And so Kyle and I went across the street to Le Pain Quotidien, a bakery and cafe with a veg friendly menu that I already know and love. DC: sweetgreen

Another waffle start to the day.   Followed by another cab ride to the heart of DC.   We left Kyle’s grandma at the DAR library so she could do research.  I’ll spare you my sentiments on how much fun that sounds like to me.  The inside was actually really neat – it looked like a cross between an old train station and the White House.  They were filming celebrity jeopardy right next door (I tweeted about my Dr. Oz sighting), but we already had Smithsonian plans.  [above] From the American History Museum – war… Read more >

DC: Founding Farmers

After a really exhausting day, we were all ready for an early dinner.  I’m talking 5 pm early. And so we made our way to Founding Farmers.  This place was recommended to me by a few different people, so I was really looking forward to it.  Unfortunately, I had a less than great interaction with the staff when I called ahead inquiring about the ability to accommodate our party of five (including one person in a wheelchair).  Not only did they tell me they don’t take reservations (which I later found out was false –… Read more >
