Krav Magic

I went to bed sooo late last night because I was waiting for Kyle to finish his homework (yes, he has homework).  Too bad for me that didn’t end up being until 1 am.  I wasn’t too concerned because, hey, it’s not like I have a job or anything.  But instead of sleeping in and regaining those lost hours, I was up and at ‘em at 7:30.  😡 6 hours of sleep?  Meh.  Not bad, but not a routine I want to roll with all the time.  The early rise and shine did give me… Read more >

Savory leftovers

If there’s one thing I pride myself on, it’s my ability to create meals out of the most random hodgepodge assortment of leftovers.  This should come as no surprise given my love for everything-but-the-kitchen-sink salads, but I definitely think I have a knack for making cupboard scraps and a nearly empty fridge into a fairly decent dish.  Oats are the perfect central ingredient for this little something-out-of-nothing trick.  If I’m going the savory route with oats, there’s one ingredient I turn to without fail, and that’s nutritional yeast… Welcome to nooch mountain.  Full of fresh… Read more >

Mexican Layered Dip

Because (a) I’m without Windows Live Writer (still learning how to get XP on my MacBook), (b) I’m not very savvy with wordpress’ blogging tool, and (c) it’s taking me an hour to load each photo, I’m going to post another photo recipe from last weekend. It’s not like I reinvented the wheel with this one (the recipe is certainly not original), but the photos are pretty and I thought I should share. (Vegetarian) refried beans Black beans. Sour cream. Corn roasted salsa. Four cheese blend. Black beans. Avocado. More avocado. Salsa. Devour. I made the… Read more >

Va De Vi

It’s about the wine. That’s the Catalan translation of this restaurant’s name, and indeed it was.  Kyle and I had no real occasion to go out to dinner, but we just felt like splurging for a fun date night.  Va De Vi is a gem of a restaurant in Walnut Creek’s downtown area.  The ambiance is casual but chic, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, a menu that changes with the seasons, and a wine list to die for.  Every direction you turned had more wine displayed.  And being all about the wine, the menu… Read more >

Land ho!

I set my alarm this morning for 7 am.  It’s been a while since I’ve set my alarm (I’m on summer vacation, yo!) but we had places to be! On the way to Port Townsend, we stopped at Deception Pass State Park.  First we pulled over to marvel at Pass Lake.  It was covered in a thick mist making it both gorgeous and eerie.  We were the only ones around and it felt so peaceful.  Nature is a wonder.  As if Pass Lake wasn’t therapeutic enough, we then came upon Deception Pass. The Deception Pass… Read more >
