I feel like I could be one of the luckiest people ever because my husband craves (as in, actually requests without arm twisting) big salads and tofu dishes for dinner. Seriously. I’m either the world’s best cook (nope, that’s not it) or I won the lottery in finding my soul mate (sounds more likely). Naturally I oblige 100% of the time (I approach his veggie cravings like a rare bird watcher, not wanting to scare them off by making any noise or ruffling any feathers). So even if I’m in a comfort food kind of… Read more >

My dream life would consist of waking up, cooking and baking to my heart’s content, hanging out with my family and friends all day, exploring new and familiar neighborhoods in LA, eating at my favorite spots while trying new places, and having big family style meals a few nights a week at our new place. This is basically what I did these past few days. I wish it didn’t have to end. I woke up Monday morning and immediately began baking Kyle’s birthday treat. He requested chocolate brownies, so that’s what I made. After… Read more >

How about one photo for each meal? Crock-pot spiced brown rice with almond butter. In an effort to bring some variety to my oat routine (the horror!!) I made brown rice this week. The crock-pot is just as easy because I leave it to cook on low overnight and wake up to warm whole grain perfection. Kale salad with seitan. No explanation necessary. These two foods will never cease to amaze me. The Cookie Department Great Full (vegan) cookie. You would never ever know this cookie has sweet potatoes in it. It was soooo good. … Read more >

Literally. Who knew massaging kale could turn your nails green!? I’ve been avoiding roasting beets due to the skin dyeing side effects, but this is almost as unattractive. At least my patients won’t be as scared off by this color though. Green nails are one thing, I suspect red hands could be interpreted a bit differently… So, about that kale. Stemmed. Scrubbed. Ripped. Oiled. Rubbed. And that’s how the base of this beauty came to be! The rest of the ingredients need no introduction as they are all hippie standards, quinoa, carrots, and tofu. But… Read more >

A few months ago my parents went to this restaurant in Newport Beach. And when they told me about it, I was actually kinda jealous…until I found out a Santa Monica location was coming soon. Hooray! Kyle and I went to celebrate him being done with finals. One year down! Since the weather was gorgeous, we walked to Santa Monica Place. The menu has a variety of options, from vegan to meat courses. They even indicate which items are vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free to assist the diner. Also, the staff is super knowledgeable… Read more >
