Dinner at Blossom

As promised, here is a more thorough recap of the first dinner with my parents. I like taking non-vegans to Blossom because the menu is impressive for vegans and non-vegans alike.  They have interesting dishes that showcase a variety of non-meat “proteins” including seitan, tempeh, and tofu, as well as a few raw options and yet they aren’t presented in an ostentatious way.  I love when restaurants have diversity in their menus without an air of arrogance about them.  Unassuming and delicious.  It took no time for us all to find something on the menu… Read more >

13 is a lot of beans

I blasted music from the Nutcracker all morning long, and it actually made the horrible weather not seem so bad.  I’ll have to remember that trick for the future… Frothy coffee and an english muffin stuffed with peanut butter helped, too.  But what REALLY warmed my heart was all your sweet comments on my weighty post.  You guys are so awesome.  Seriously.  It’s always nerve racking to put yourself out there, but I am continually amazed by the overwhelmingly supportive and positive comments.  Gah.  You guys are too much! Anyways, after breks, I cuddled up… Read more >

Back in action

It takes just one full day of my regular hippie eating to get me back in the swing of things.  Today was perfect.  I started the day with foamy coffee and a massive bowl tupperware of oats.  Explanation behind the use of tupperware?  Well, I had planned on making overnight oats for work the previous day, but I completely forgot about it in the morning.  (It’s already a challenge for me to transport my regular pre-packed lunches, so adding another tupperware was the straw that broke the camel’s back my backpack) Forgetting the oats worked… Read more >

Cold weather challenges

It’s been pretty cold lately, and with the change in weather comes several personal challenges.  Comfort food.  Why is it called that?  It certainly doesn’t leave you feeling comforted.  For all intents and purposes, it should be called UNcomfortable food, because of how it leaves you feeling.  But then, who doesn’t crave warm foods during the cold months?  Sure, there are healthy hot dishes, but soup gets old, and suddenly I find myself drawing a blank on the meal creating front and resorting to some stereotypical (aka less than healthy) alternatives.  Because of this, the… Read more >

Fall colored food

I didn’t even realize how ridiculously orange my meals were, until I uploaded all the pictures…holy naranja!  I woke up fairly early for my day off, which allowed time for serious AM chowing.  This mug vat of coffee had froth up the yin-yang (just the way I like it).  I also toasted an English muffin and caked on the Smart Balance light.  Puddles of butter normally skeeve me out, but for some reason I craved it today. Throughout the morning I read blogs and snacked on lots of fruit.  Gotta enjoy the (dwindling) sweet part… Read more >
