(not) Sunset’s fruit and nut bars

My parents went to the Cal vs. Kansas basketball game the other night, so I was home alone with my sis and Kyle.  Bored, but too tired to do anything that involved changing out of PJs, I randomly decided to bake.  My mom always has tons of magazines on hand, including my faves, Bon Appetite and Sunset. I raided the cabinets and pantry… Not too shabby.   My parents didn’t have medjool dates…or dried apples…and not very much honey…soooo, yeah, I made quite a few changes to the recipe I was using.  Given that the ingredients… Read more >

The Longest Commute

On Sunday I worked from 7 am to 7:30 pm and then headed home… I arrived at 1:30 am. Confused? I’m home with the fam! As I mentioned in my last post, Kyle dropped me off at work so that he would have the car all day, and then be able to pick me up after work so we could leave straight away.  And by straight away, I mean, after stopping at Whole Foods for dinner. 😉 We made it home safe and sound – no thanks to the stormy California weather…slept in ‘til 10…. Hour by Hour

Here’s the line-up (the photo shows the eats in chronological order of consumption). And here’s the hourly breakdown… 7:30 pm – I pack the above eats for work. 8:30 pm – In an attempt to get back on track, I tuck into the covers extra early. 4:14 am – My alarm goes off and Kyle lovingly nudges shoves me out of my slumber to shut off the beeping. 4:30 am – Jillian Michaels makes me regret seeing the sunrise with weights and cardio. 5:00 am – Shower time. 5:15 am – I sip on coffee… Read more >

The quick and (not) dirty

Clean eats with minimalist descriptions.  Ready, set, blog. Pumpkin Pie smoothie   Toast with “cream cheese” and cinnamon. I have mixed feelings about Tofutti cream cheese.  It’s got an odd saltiness to it that can sometimes make for an unexpected flavor, but it’s great for subbing into pasta dishes.  It does melt when it meets warm bread, which is a win in my book.  🙂   Self explanatory addiction. Ditto to the above. Avocado + pea mash up It’s not easy being green…when avocado is involved.  On toasted sprouted bread.   My night shift work eats… Read more >

Untimely meals

Starting the day with stove-top oats is becoming a nice ritual on non-work days.  On Saturday, I woke up at 7:30 without an alarm (not ideal), but embraced it and jump kicked the weekend with some coffee…and blogging. Evidently, I took zero photos of my beautiful cup of joe. And yet, somehow I wound up with 800 pictures from my pumpkin oat cooking session.  The recipe isn’t rocket science, and yet, I feel like it’s so pretty that I’m committing a crime in not taking pictures. Don’t worry, I deleted half of them, so now… Read more >
