In the absence of any other “real” camps, my parents offered to take the kids for a few days (TWO nights!) so Kyle and I could get some time alone – both together and separately. It was GLORIOUS. Similar to the last time they spent the night at camp grandma and grandpa, I spent a ton of the time doing housework and organizing (boring stuff I know). But wow oh wow was it nice to tackle everything.
The biggest treat was that we ordered takeout both nights! First takeout in for-eh-ver.
This is our thai order from Ket Mo Ree.
We got the seafood pad thai, chicken satay, and grilled salmon. The salmon came with a wild rice/bean combo that I’ve never seen before (in thai food or anywhere). It was a little odd, to be honest, to have kidney beans and wild rice with a teriyaki dish, but whatever.
The next day we got take out from Huku.
Huku is actually our go to takeout because we can walk there and it’s the best sushi in town. For that reason, I reallllly want to keep them in business.
We usually get sushi, but this time we got some new stuff. Above is the katsu donburi which was awesome.
And then we got the chicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken). As for sushi, we got the dragon roll (deep fried shrimp, avo, eel, cucumber and sauce), which is one of my faaavorites.
My other fave is the Lion King roll (on the right), which is baked salmon. I know it sounds so weird and I thought the same for the first numerous times we ate there and refused to order it, but it is always highlighted as one of their standouts that everyone loves. So I finally went for it last year. And then I fell in love. The end.
But seriously, I’ve been ordering it every time we go ever since I first tasted it. The last roll we got was the temptation roll (salmon, spicy tuna, daikon, avo and sauce). Kyle loves spicy tuna, so this was mostly for him. Also it doesn’t have cucumber, so that means less chopstick surgery for him.
FYI, this is the teriyaki salmon entree, which is from a previous take out order. It comes with a side salad, rice, steamed veg and (usually) miso soup. For some reason, when you order it for take out they don’t include miso soup. I asked about it after the forgot it the second time in a row and that was the only answer I got. No reason why. I don’t know.
Huge thanks to my parents for making all of this possible and helping Kyle and I keep our sanity.
