After a wonderful morning of sleeping in, running in the park, and brunching at Joe, I headed downtown to pop into my old office. I just wanted to say hello to some of my friends from work.
And by “office”, I mean hospital. And by “some of my friends” I mean two people. Because almost everyone else has quit since I left.
I had been texting with them the days leading up to my trip, so I knew they’d be working that day…but I didn’t anticipate anyone else caring that I was coming by.
It was a nice surprise to see several familiar faces, all happy to see me and catch up. I ended up distracting them from patient care for almost an hour. Woops!
By the time we left I was starving – and I had Bonobo’s on the brain.
If there’s one place that you must come to in NYC, it’s Bonobo’s. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, raw, or flexible you will adore this low key place.
The ambiance is clean and understated, and although the menu can look confusing and complicated, it’s really simple. Plus, the staff is SO friendly, they will give you as much or as little guidance as you want. They will let you sample things before you order them too.
Order in and sit or get pre-made items to takeaway. Salads, wraps, nori rolls, juices, etc.
This is one of the items they are most famous for. I think Gena has recreated their Coconut Chai as well.
Kyle and I both decided on nori rolls…which means you choose a nut pate and five vegetables for them to wrap in seaweed and slice like sushi.
I sampled a few nut pates and decided on the macadamia nut with sundried tomato and miso. Kyle opted for the same one. It was outstanding. The sunflower curry was a close second in my opinion.
For my veggies, I chose cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, zucchini, and sprouts.
Spread. Stuff. Slice. Serve.
Very few words were spoken as Kyle and I ate lunch. I was too busy savoring each bite. Mmmmm….
I chose the citrus vinaigrette dressing for my salad, while Kyle chose the lemon tahini. After drizzling it over the lettuce, we both drank the remaining dregs like jello shooters out of the dixie cups. You would too if you knew how good they were.
After lunch, we strolled around the block to Eataly.
My camera battery died shortly after this, but you can probably see (and guess) where Kyle’s looking (hint: it rhymes with melato).
Ooh that looks like a brilliant place to go eat, the nori rolls look delicious! Plus anywhere with a big and varied salad bar is always good 🙂
Plus gelato to finish? Sounds perfect to me!
Ahhhhh! I was at an all-day training just a few blocks away today and my plan was to get lunch at Bonobo’s to bring back –until they announced it was a nut-free office and we couldn’t bring anything with nuts in. If I can’t have a nut pate from Bonobo’s, what’s the point?! Whah!!!!
Gosh those nori rolls sound amazing! I love your travel posts but they always give me the bug to get up and go!
man i really wish we had cooler restaurants in Columbus!! all of those eats look diiivineee
I *love* Bonobo’s, and NYC! Have you eaten at Sacred Chow? That’s another favorite.
Yeah, that place is really great. Very understated and unpretentious. Not like all of the other raw places! I Love raw, but sometimes I feel oh so not trendy enough-it’s like the new “to be seen” kind of places now!
Bonobo’s looks amazing! Just added to my wishlist for my NYC vacation!
bonobos looks amazing – the sushi look so tasty!
awww…such a bummer 🙁 there really is no reason to go to bonobos if you cant get the nut pates though. what about a sunflower seed or pumpkin seed spread though?
i know! so good!!
its one of kyles faves too, so the hubby will def enjoy.
so true. there no hype about it or holier than thou feel at all. i love that part about it.
Coconut chai sounds so good! My eyes would be looking at gelato too!
Gah! Coconut chai!!! Heaven on the brain, you mean.
Mmm…I so want to go to Bonobos and try their all-fruit ice creams! Have you had that before? I sounds amazing! I love frozen bananas and in my head that is what it sounds like. Now I’m gonna have to squeeze in some nori rolls too! Yum! <3 xyx
